Should it not be possible if a crafting of a weapon or armor fails, to smelt the messed up result into an ingot? especially since it takes quiet a few ingots to try to make a product, so if once does not succeed, it should theoretically be possible to smelt 1 or 2 biproducts into an ingot. What do you think? Everyone is welcome to comment.

I don't think that'd be good for balance of the game, even though in real life you would expect that you could smelt up the messed up result.

What Ed said. It's easy enough as it is, getting the 15 first lvls in metal crafting.

Have I missed something? I've been putting the "Mangled Copper" I get from failing to craft daggers into the ingot recyclers and I have been getting an ingot back as well as 2 exp. Am I not supposed to be able to do this?

No thats exactly what you're supposed to do.
The original post is that you should get mangled metal from failed armors, i believe.

I think that if you have a botch piece of slag as the result of trying to craft something that there should be some reduction in both weight and amount of metal that remains. This would depend strongly on what you are trying to craft. Something small like a copper lure, and you botch would not give you anything worth salvaging. Something larger should, though if what you were crafting required three ingots and you botched the craft, when you take it to the recycler, you would get two ingots back. The recycler giving half of the metal the you used back. A object that requires only a single ingot and you botched, would give you nothing, the slag would be consumed by the recycler.
