Title: Town ordinance
Post by: Flaco on July 15, 2005, 10:45:00 PM
Will someone explain to this newcomer of Hilnt if there is an ordinance banning the carrying of "pointy" weapons.  A paladin named Slate sniveled unitl I put my spear away.

no ordinance, however the law states "anyone carrying a pointy weapon in hlint does so at their own risk, taking the full responsibility of any subsequent sniveling, berating, and/or chastising upon themselves."

Just kidding.

There is no law that has ever been enforced along these lines.  And... if there is a law on the books... well, they probably stopped enforcing it when the first three guard captains got skewered by adventureres for trying to enforce said law.

No law its just bad manors to walk around armed in Hlint, Pali and clerics chastise me for my lack of clothing with my wild elf. Her dress is natural for the forest but by no means modest and pry borders on indecent. She really can't understand what they are talking about its her normal village dress. It’s a loincloth and Amazon bust strap. But if you read her description she is pretty covered with tattoos, and is on the avatar as well. Oh and she wears a bow wrist brace and a arm wrap, grand total she had a little less leather on her then it takes to make a pair of boots maybe less.

Its not bad until the pali yelling at you about having your weapon out is waving his around at the same time, or you see him later with it out in town.  I always take my helm off and put my weapons other then my staff away. I use my staff for support or I would put it away as well, and with my civilized bard I try to remember to change into a dress from my armor as well.  I just think weapons out and helm on are rude.

If I see you with a helm on in town I assume you are hiding something and may accuse you of being a drow. But that’s just my feelings. As stated their is no law and with the recent drow attacks and Bloods general being seen in the area, walking around armed and ready might not be out of character, but I think the vast majority would at least sheath their sword. A spear is a bit harder to hide, but you can "shoulder" it and secure it with a peace knot.

I like this approach.  We can't enforce any of this but it sure does improve the RP of things.

Quin tries to ALWAYS sheath his weapon in towns (staves aside) and removes helms or hoods when it is appropriate.

However, he doesn't remove his armor that often. Why? Well, for one it makes him look like he is actually a Knight, and for two, it would take far too long for him to remove all of that, and then lug it around with him. It just makes more sense to keep

Just a warrior thing I guess.

Key keeps her two shortswords away in town until she needs them. And if things get hairy she has an assortment of darts, a dagger, and a few others she can use.

I see.  Well  I guess I'll have to just use my staff in town, to be civil.  Thanks.

So...I'm a monk.  Should I walk around town with my hands in my pockets?  Just kidding ;)

Actually we have to wrap pillows around your hands and duct tape them so they're tight.

A monk generally has enough self-control not to go around beating everyone's brains out. :D
