OMG, I would want to type an appropriate comment concerning this thread, but I can't for the tears in my eyes. And no, I'm not laughing.
Therefore I will just quote the most disturbing comment, in my eyes, not that all the others are any less disturbing.
I have heard that physical lichhood or more appropriately named immortality is possible.You dont look like lich but you surely cannot die of any natural means.This involves certain ghastly procedures and I heard that involves highly advanced form of psychic vampirism.Dont worry I wont ask that I become lich.

I make the occasional sacrifice to Cthulu and one to Sean Connery every now and again.
I also ceremoniously sacrifice copies of actraiser 2 to any being that will take it (that is to say, none of them.)

This is disturbing on sooooo many different levels, I just can't imagine waking up in the morning with a thought like that knocking around inside my skull and then functioning as a human being in reality.
Seriously, a fellow with a degree in psychology could make a very comfortable living off just the people in that forum.
I firmly believe that you have found the webpage forums of a sanitarium that allows thier loonies on the web.

I've been trying to make sacrifices to Nicole Kidman for years, but, due to the restraining order I cannot get close enough for her to be tempted by my burnt offerings. Alas, I worship from afar.

Well, I'm a chick, so even saying "Yo." to Zeus would probably get me turned into a cow or killed in some hideously extravagant way, by him or his wife. As for Aphrodite, well, she'd probably show up with a few others and have a "Who is prettier?" contest that results in a lot more dying than loving.
Maybe Apollo, if only because the thought of a god telling me "And yea I come to you in the form of a dolphin..." or something lame like that, just somehow brings a smile to my face everytime I think about it.
I think my favorite part was the bit about Mystra.

What, you've never evoked the gods of D&D?? What are you, living in the non-magic age? Yeesh, get with the times. Just this morning I had tea with Heironeous, went out and pants'd Hextor with him, and played some tennis with Moradin. It was great fun.

Well, in some ways, this makes a magickal sort of sense. Of course, no honest Ceremonial Magician would agree with this, as it's commonly believed that the deities invoked during a ritual have so much of this energy built around them, for centuries, that they've become this absolute aggregate of experience on a higher plane of existence. I don't think 30 years of some P&P and such are really going to make an ideology ascend to the rank of personified god/dess.
Of course, this is irrelevant if one follows Chaos Magick. To them, you can use any name in an evocation/invocation, and as long as it means something to you, then so be it. Thus you have invocations to Cthulhu, Hastur, Dagon, The Pink Rhino Goddess, Barney, Yellow Ranger, Nicole Kidman, Elian Gonzalez, Captain Crunch, etc.
There could also be those who argue that as long as the "deity" (or personified attribute(s) ) actually has honest attributes that can be invoked, then it's plausible. It's clear that between classical mythologies, there are blatent parallels between certain deities. Apollo and Balder, Odin and Zeus, Hades and Set, Venus and Hathoor, Horus and Ares. Although not exactly the same (this has to do with humanly factors, environment, culture, things of that nature), parallels exist.
My rambling is at an end lol. In conclusion...it's still a little strange, and personally you won't see me writing an invocation to Aragen, with books abound, the magickal circle in the shape of a book, and other magickal tools reflective of that pseudo-god, but to each his or her own I suppose. In any case, success is thy proof. I don't think you'd get any good kind of success out of invoking Nyarlathotep or Azathoth though, but that's just my thought.

They might be on to something. Maybe after fifty shots of vodka, a fall down a really long flight of stairs, and the repeated bashing of your head againsst a wall might allow you to meet a D&D god. I think that they are all overlooking the easiest summoning methods. ;)

No no, that's called exalting the ego to a state of self-worship and narcissism. Not quite the same as ideology turning into worship of personified forces.
