Title: Requiring DM assistance
Post by: regentwill on August 15, 2005, 11:50:00 PM
Last night I was mining with my character, Gerald Ambrose, and I noted my Panther summon kept attacking something called "The Voice" which I could not see. It was annoying, and I tried to contact a DM, but received no response. I continued on my way into the caves near the forest outside of town, past the goblins. I had another companion with me, Glenn something. Anyways, we kept the goblins at bay, unfortunately after the fight was over, I had an attack of oppertunity against this invisible force, which I was unable to harm, and forced it into combat mode, which unfortunately lead to my untimely demise, the first death past level 3.

Im wondering why this happened, how I can avoid it, and what reprocussions I am going to suffer for this OOC death? I lost 70 gold, so thats not a huge deal. A pain in the arse is all, but I am worried about that counting towards my 10 till perma dead thing.

That 10 till perma-death thing is a count of death tokens, not actual deaths

When you die, as all things do, naturally or not, The Soul Mother will make an attempt to take your soul, this is represented by one random roll on a scale of 1-100, the DC being your character lvl, and the roll has to be under it for her to successfully take it.

However, with bindstones placed around the world keep her from taking it all at once from you (or at least that's how I kinda view it), so you have to die constantly for the spiritual strain to lose all of it.

Example:
A lvl 18 character dies (rolls a 37 vs Soul Mother) your safe
A lvl 2 character dies (rolls a 1 vs Soul Mother) the RP Gods hate you ;), and you recieve 1 Death Token

It's as Random as it can be

Any character can die many, many times, even in the triple digits if you really think you have that kind of luck

This one death of yours doesn't matter so much, unless it got you a Death Token, you can check at any Bindstone, if it did, The DMs will surely look into it if the Voice somehow is responsible for your death, if no DT, then all you lost was some gold. *shrugs*

Oh, I have a screenshot of the voice kicking me in my head. Maybe its a bug that needs to be looked into?

Except a level 2 character has no chance of getting a DT until they level two more times. ;)

I was just throwing out an example of the possibilities, there is a safety zone to protect newer characters.

"The Voice" is what is used when players are using the ears to speak and sometimes they get whacky...kind of out of our control due to lag and various bioware type things.  The best solution is to quit using the ear and then initialize the ear again and try.  Or try to log out and back in and see if that helps. If neither of these help I would suggest not using the ear to speak until the server gets reset.
