Title: You know you're taking Layonara a bit too seriously when...
Post by: jjkolb on August 30, 2005, 01:26:00 PM
...you actually feel bad that your ox died.  (In real life, not in character :( )

I was mining in the Sielwood cave and left my ox in between me and a spawn point (I won't name the creature).  While picking away, I see this certain creature advancing toward me and knew that it had slain my ox.  The poor thing had no chance.  I still feel a little guilty that I left him for slaughter.  My new ox just isn't the same...

Maybe I need a little break...

When working in a Heat treatment plant and you gotta load 100 pounds of cobalt into a wire basket to be "cooked". and all you can think is where is the ignot recyceler and how many ingots you'll walk away with.

Also you call that same heat treatment plant "a shrine to Dorand"

I don't get the opportunity to feel guilty over my dead oxen, as it seems to happen quite a lot. Kurgaz must be the only Dwarven Defender who can prepare himself for the possibility of defending a town against a balor by himself, yet can't even keep an ox alive when attacked by Kobold.. :o

I must have spent gold numbering in the thousands on them things... :(

When you're thinking just what your characters would do in certain situations, and sometimes they shine out loud. I'm really just Key. It's come down to it. A mixture of Key, about a hundred twinkies, and a pack of cigarettes.

How 'bout, um, how 'bout when you dream a lot about it. Like when I had to confirm with IDii that Acacea had not been in the Nameless Dungeon with Remiel and Mettew anytime recently, after dreaming that I was still playing. Or...!

I had this dream last night that Plenarius was "going away" on a ship to somewhere, leaving Brisbane behind, and Acacea was for some sad reason on the boat as well (poor guy), chatting to him as the ship pulled away, about all of the reasons she felt bad for him for having to leave. Like, you know. All of the bad things that can happen to someone while sailing, and how their loved ones would never know, or they could die while they were away. "Boy, it sure would be awful if a storm came up and everyone died and you never saw her again, huh? Good thing I'm here."

And he turned it around, kicked Acacea off and grabbed Brisbane and it turned into a song and dance number. A surprisingly good one, if you could call any of them good. It was seriously freaky.

I guess you had to have been there. I almost died when I woke up.

I would really like to see Key walk down the street in Hlint, licking a twinkie wrapper. Could you do that for me? I would, I don't know. Give you my soul. I've already sold it two or three times for various foodstuffs, but I'm sure it's good for another. They misfile a lot of paperwork, down there.

I was running a marathon about a week ago. It was in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming. There was no sign of civilization anywhere, just a dirt road through the desert hills. As I was running over one rolling hill, I thought, "Wait, this looks familiar. I've been here before." Then I realized where it was. The road to Fort Llast, with that little hill near the mercenary camp. I was so tired by that point that it didn't even seem odd to me to be having a deja vu moment over a nonexistent fantasy world locale.

When I used to live in boston, and I'd go out late at night, I'd stride out into the streets feeling perfectly secure thinking to myself "I don't need to worry about any street thugs I'll just pull out my longbow."

and then, like 45 seconds later I'd realize I don't have a long bow, and if I did, I probably wouldn't be very intimidating with it... then I'd start looking around suspiciously.

Hopefully none of you has had the same problem I had a few days ago. I started answering people using the phrases from my character's voice set. My wife caught on after about the second one. I was OK with "And now I will take my leave", but did get a few stares when I stupidly said at work, "Let's sneak up and catch them with their knickers down." I'm trying to be more selective now :)

Yeah, had steak and rolls last night for dinner, and found myself trying to determine the amout of damage I could do to my sirloin with a butter knife...
Found myself thinking more than once, "I have to have at least fourteen strength."
Also speculated about what my AC would be with my heavy winter jacket on... gotta be at least equal to padded right...?
   "Uh oh! Mom's coming..." *rolls two d20s* 1 + (-10) = -9 Hide/1 + (-10) = -9 Move Silently "Darn, spotted again..."

no, the worst thing ever is when you're at the store (celgar posted this once before) and you walk through the juice isle, and you see gallon jugs of cranberry juice, and you're like, "oh my god!  only 3.50?  I could make like 50 essences of power!"

Same thing for eggs and scribing... or aloe, buy the plant, grow it yourself, you can make as many healing potions as you need muahahah!

Having a non-existent compulsive urge to smoke. I'm always thinking, like at school at such, "Huh, I should smoke that last bit of Green Dragon's Envy". I don't smoke at all in RL, so it's kind of strange. Also, when talking, I usually have an urge to say my actions with little asterisks, like *laughs*. Ohh, also, thinking I could get a pass to go to the little boy's room during class, then turn on stealth and wander around the school.

Went for a walk with friends the other day and came across a mining quarry. After a while of thinking to myself a friend asked me what I was doing? To which I replied "Just looking to see if there are any greenstone deposits in there. Ah dont worry about it I dont have my miners pick with me anyway"

Geez.....I need a break ;)

Hhhmm....

Well, the word, “aye” has become part of my regular speaking vocabulary.

And late July, early August, I ended up taking a few days off after I started having dreams where my viewpoint/perspective of the dream was happening through the perspective of NWN’s main game-play screen.  I mean, I could see the quick slots and all the other stuff you see on your main screen - and was seeing the dreams like what you see when you're playing the game!

Now that was just too weird for me.  So I took a break.  Hasn’t happened since.

Lol.  Okay, maybe I +do+ have a problem, *he quickly denies it, once again* but here's another.  I am really into long distance running.  But where I live, in the central U.S., it gets really, really hot in the summer times.  The only time you can run without getting a heat stroke or heat exhaustion is very early morning.  So to keep up my conditioning, I end up having to go out sometimes as early as 04:00 or 04:30; and the sun does not rise until 05:30 at the earliest.  *he denies the existence of yet another addiction* This is hard to do at times, so I have to come up with ways to motivate.  So this past summer, one of these was pretending I was Ael (monk speed) out on a night-time (drow) training run somewhere in Mistone.

Now one of my running routes takes me through a wooded area near a cemetery - so a couple of times I had to resist the temptation to pretend I was Ael fighting undead in the Broken Forest.  Now +that+ would have got me thrown away really fast!

I can't tear myself away from Layonara long enough to work on my bonsai.  I have a weekend meeting with my master in 2 more weeks, and I still haven't done anything--all summer long.  Two of my oldest trees are probably dead, everything else is overgrown, nothing is wired--I think you get the picture.
Maybe if I tell him I was defending them from goblins all summer?

Yllyrryon reminded me of the fact that I've had dreams about Layo.  I actually woke up one day, started playing, and realized that the last half hour I thought I'd spent roleplaying with people never actually happened.. so I had to do it all over again.  I had been doing such great character representation, too..

Not really a RL one, but, nevertheless. When playing Counter-Strike ( Yes, I still do that from time to time ) you always click C to find out how much XP did you get for killing that enemy, expecting to get around 3000 when you see that you just shot one the best men of the opposing team. Getting irritated and thinking "Damn lag!" when the character sheet doesn't open. And feeling stupid after being shot, due to not making anything and waiting for the lag to pass and the character sheet to open

Adding to my list, here. Yesterday, I was walking past a table that had some...junk advertisement deal for what was probably a halloween party or something. Most of it was obscured by something on top of it, so it just said "Treats!" in really big and ...halloween-y letters. I stopped, looked at it, and thought "They spelled Treants wrong..."

Did I immediately laugh and realize my mistake? No. I spent far too long trying to sound out the word to figure out their intention, very stuck on the word "treants." I finally walked off, thinking, "Tre-ats. Must be some band I never heard of."

Now he was very excited about the owl and going on and on... I asked him who he was and he repeated his wildlife studies..... (here comes).. I immediatly responded "OH! your a Drui..... uh...cool...." I hid behind my desk until he left.
