Title: Peeved Off!
Post by: Bryantiza on September 12, 2005, 11:34:00 AM
I have been spending ages getting sand so I can trade 40 bags of sand for a ring of int + 1 from Aleister.
I ran out of space in my bank, so i decided to put it in my Ox.
It wasn't till i had attempted to put 6 in that i noticed that the bags of sand were vanishing and it was saying 'You may not place stackable items in the Ox's pack'
BAGS OF SAND AREN'T STACKABLE!!!
so why did i lose my sand!?

(just to note, i don't care that they have vanished and i do not want them back, seeing as i have nothing that proves it happened)
I just want to know WHY it happened. Is it a bug?

Nope.. not a bug.  Bags of sand have charges.  The ox actually says somthing about not putting stackables.. Or things with charges on the ox.
I've done that before too...  sorry :-/

Don't know.. but for as long as I've been here... oxen don't allow to carry sand *shrugs*
Keeps balance though... mindless labor for easy gold

Why not work some on your tinkering and give
him 20 glass ingots?

Btw, you are not supposed to be able to
load your ox with Sand.

i'll have to ask him. I offered him 80 clay and he complained and said he had no use for it.
i'll have to ask about the ingots....
hopefully without him getting grumpy at me again.....

Not sure if it got through, but with the ingots
you'll save space and weight and you can store
them on the ox. I'm guessing he will use the
sand to make glass ingots.

Anyways, whatever he's using it for, see if you can
make it for him instead to save space and decrease
the burden.

Hehe...grumpy? Me? Complain? Me?

Zeos. Buddy. Do like Frendh suggested, which is what I should have suggested to ya, but I enjoy the suffering on others immensely. Turn the sand into glass ingots at the tinkers forge. That will be fine. And you might learn something.

If you come anywhere near me looking for a hug, I suggest you bring your local cleric.

Your friendly mage,
- Al

You've never been able to store bags of sand successfully on an ox.

The real reason for the no stackables no charged items is as follows:

The oxen don't store acctual items like the bank and housing chests do.  They just record the tags of all the items you put on it.  Everytime you unload your ox the list of tags attatched to it are recreated directly from the pallette.  If you could put charged items on an ox, lets say, for example, a wand of fireballs, every time you loaded the pack off the ox the wand would be recreated from the pallette as if it were a brand new wand and, you guessed it, it would have full charges. So you could shoot off all but one of the fireballs, load it on and off the ox and voila, unlimited wand.  The importance of the charges on sand are really negligable, but its still a minor exploit, and way more trouble that it would be worth to change the script so that it would deny all charged items except bags of sand.

The reason for stackables is similar.  When a stack of something is recreated it is recreated either as a full stack or as a stack with a random number between 1 and the max stack, i dont remember and may be mixing up two similar fixed exploits.  Even if it was random you could keep taking it on and off untill you had more than you did before.  So, either thats the reason, or its because a stack of 99 arrows would take 99 database lines to record making each ox much larger and take longer to load casuing more lag and probably issues with the max # of items you can put on an ox, since its counted as one item when its placed in the bag, but 99 when its written into the DB.

The fact that ox inventories are recreated from the pallette instead of storing the acctual item is also the reason you cant put anything enchanted on an ox.  Adding an enchantment just adds a property to an item, it doesnt acctually swap the item for a different one with the enchantment.  As such, there are no "iron longsword with cold rod II" in the pallette, its just an iron longsword, so thats what you get back.

But seriously, do I talk too much?  I mean, you can tell me if I do.  I don't think i talk too much.  I think Acacea would agree with me.

You totally don't talk too much, TV! I mean, I knew this one guy who DID talk too much and oh man...

*An hour later.*

So, THEN we had to ride the dragon back home and honestly while I enjoyed the experience, the whole thing was just completely unnecessary because he just HAD to open his mouth...what were we saying, again?

Oh, no. You don't.
