Title: Is poison useful?
Post by: Bryantiza on November 16, 2005, 04:52:00 PM
I make poisons and use them on my arrows..but i haven't seen it do affect against anything i've fought yet and i was wondering if its even worth me spending time in poison making. It's impossible to sell, i've resorted to giving them away to Trysk, ranewin and Leo, but Trysk says they're useless and the only reason he accepts them is because i say if he don't take them i'll give it to some kids to play with...

so my question is

'Is poison making worth doing and does the poison even affect anything since it seems to be impossible to sell'

Poison has a very short duration once applied to a weapon. Therefore you must apply it and use it quickly. This means you must carefully and thoughtfully pick your spots. As to effect, poison does varying types of STAT damage. This means that you might not even notice the effects it has on something even if you are successful in hitting with it. Also keep in mind that anything you try and poison gets the opportunity to make a fortitude save.

Poison is great for the sneaky types, who can use it on that first attack when the enemy doesn't know they're there.  It's quite a bit more difficult for fighter-types to make as good of a use of it.  But knocking down a giant's strength, or dropping that elven ranger's constitution can make the killing task much eaiser.

As said above, it's all about choosing your targets wisely. I find knocking down the strength on creatures to be most useful as it slows them down, allowing me to get more shots off without getting into a direct fight, which is good for killing creatures that you wouldn't normally be able to handle.

Having said that, when you are with powerful groups, or are fighting a group of creatures, the effects become less obvious, usually because either side is dead before you get much of a chance to observe the poison in action ;)
