Without other classes having access to the perform skill (well i've never been able to choose it), how do you show that your character can sing.
I have found that when my characters do sing/play an instrument people always want a perform roll, but surely bards aren't the only people with a good singing voice...they just have the nerve to sing to an audience. But if they are singing without the knowledge of anyone watching, I don't see why others can't have a good singing voice but how can you rp that you can sing if they ask for a perform roll 90% of the time...

that's actually a really good question. a plain jane Charisma check will work, but I'd guess you'd have to have roll pretty high.
dang 3rd ed and skill restrictions

hmm...yeah but why would charisma determine how good you are at singing?

Unless it was for a singing competition or during a quest I don't think you need a dieroll for it. Just emote it and use it as a trait of your character.
:)
Edit: If you dont have a skill you can always look at which ability it ties to and go from there. Ie. which ability score does perform use?

agreed. The best way to RP that you can sing is by.... singing!
