Title: Metamagic
Post by: Bryantiza on December 16, 2005, 11:11:00 AM
When it comes to metamagic what I was wondering was;

Can you put two metamagics into affect at the same time?

For example: Would i be able to combine the metamagic 'still spell' and 'extend spell' so that I get an extended ghostly Visage while wearing armor?

I don't think so, at least not on NwN.

ok, thanks. I know that on NWN you can learn auto-still spell at a HIGH lvl which i'm not even going to begin of thinking about reaching. but that would allow for extend spell to be used with it I would have thought...

I will experiment with this later tonight and let you know the details...

Last I remember, auto still does not stack with meta quicken

Auto Quicken... despite it's description... does NOT... grant immunity to armor penalties

and neither does meta quicken

no, silly Doc, it's 'auto still' that grants immunity to spell failure.

indeed. Auto still spell and auto quicken work together. They allow you to cast in armor at a very quick rate. I know that for a fact as i've used it on my nwn game but i'm unsure of my original question.

Thanks in advance!

*edit* also i know that you can use auto quicken and auto still spell together and then use extend spell afterwards to make it so you can cast in armor at a quick rate and for a long period of time. ....well if i remember correctly you can...

I stand corrected, though I remember that Auto Quicken and Meta Quicken both stated that they would make you imune to armor penalties since there was no verbal or somantic portion.

Kind of intimidating when you think about it.

Can you imagine the implications there, though?  If they really were supposed to remove verbal and somatic components?  There'd never be a purpose for Still Spell or Silent Spell, aside from the difference in amount of levels they kick a spell up.

So erm.... does anyone kno the answer to my original question?

You can't.

Once you have Auto Still Spell, or Auto Quicken Spell, yes i think you can cast Extended or Empowered spells without suffering from the Arcane Failure Chance from armors/shields.

However, Autostill Spell has a bug related to a spell or two, one is Magic Circle vs Alignment, that isn't working with these feats since it will fail if your Arcane F. Chance is high enough or you're unlucky enough.

okay thanks.

So i'd be able to have extend and still spell but in order for me to cast an extended version of a spell i'd have to take off the armor, cast it, then put the armor back on. got it.
thanks

I mean you can't do a spell that's extended AND still. Wearing armor or not does not affect this. Armor does affect your chance of failing to cast the spell effectively, but that's a separate thing.

So even if i have auto-still spell and i cast extended spell in armor it will still fail?

No, there is a chance of failure depending on the armor type you are wearing. Look at the armor, it has a %-age for spell failure.
