Heya, just thought I would like a future career in computer games programming...but I feel I just need some questions answered:
What's it like to be one? I know all the requirements for it...I mean are they social and stuff? I heard they have no social life and...I'm really scared about that, because Im a super social guy, and i dont want that to be stopped when I started the career!

Game programmers usually have much tougher deadlines than "normal software programmers", which results in less time for social stuff. More people like these things too, which means harder to get job...
I suggest you to become a "normal" one first, and maybe change to "game" one later. ;)

Edit: they have no social life OUT SIDE their office...
I have heard horror stories fromt he guys that programmed Grand turismo 4... they slept under their desks never saw the light of day and were fed rarely because they were too busy getting the game done so they ended up lookling like gollum

I think the social requirements are the same as any other computer nerds. Caffination cravings during crunch time, taste buds honed for cold pizza, disgust in pop music, hellish nightmares involving pixilized avatars and floods of ones and zeros. As far as interpersonal communication goes, that wouldn't really change at all. Heck, I'm a rock star and I date less than most computer programmers.
Too many bad memories of fetching my guitar from the pawnshop after a messy breakup and being stalked...
You can eat my cat, call my mom, set my porch on fire, just leave my Stratocaster out of it!
*plays some Yngwie Malmsteen-esque solos and lets the bad memories all slip away*

I started as a coder and now I travel all over the world working on future technologies. Jump in the water is fine :)
