eerr.... I know computer geeks that would argue over which one is better for hours, but me? as long as they work, they're all good. *shrugs*
So I say, find the cheapest, and go one step up from that. =P

My opinion, Mac's make really good Laptops. I would go with one of those. But if you were to get one of the Windows laptops I would go with the AMD's because they have always run faster, and cooler than P4's. Just personal opinion on the Mac though.

If you're getting a computer for entertaiment purposes only, then don't buy a MAC. But if you're planning on doing work on it and you're familiar with the system, then go with a mac. Mac is very stable and you need to be a genius to mess it up and crash the system, so it is good when you know that your work files won't go poof for no actual reason.

Macs laptops are acctually fairly competatively priced featurewise with Windows laptops, but lose a bit of ground pricewise with desktops. The benchmarks on the new intel dual processor macs look awesome and if I found a couple thousand dollars on the ground I would totally buy one heh.
The AMD processors have better gaming benchmarks than the pentiums, and the Athlon you've listed is rated higher than the opteron or whatever it is.
So, if you want a mac, go with one of the new intel based ones, they look screamin'. And if you want a PC I'd reccomend the Athlon.

Pentiums in a Macintosh? What is the world coming to?
heh, *someones* been out of the loop ;)
And they're not pentiums. Intel makes multiple lines of processors.

Oh. Well. Yeah.
Anyways, hopefully Texas Tech's Architecture Department will allow me to get a Macintosh, because I will DEFINITELY be making a push to get the Intel Powered Macintosh.
