I'm down for the count for while....  

My 2nd HD went up in smoke after installing a new GFX vard into my sytem... It was the first time I shut it down and when she started back up the machine spirt was too weak and died. So now with my prime HD at her limit I'm gonna be down for a while... I don't have a few gigs to spare for NWN and Layo...

What kind of power supply do you have?   Some of the new video cards require at least a 400watt power supply.   If your is less it probably could not handle the load.

300 watts and the card req's 300 watts and the 2nd HD is on it's own power supply it's extrnal

Hmmm.   I wouldn't think a video card would make an external drive Bomb.   Is your external drive USB?

It I rehook it it just crashes and burns up in smoke... I've taken a look a the HD and I see no Visble damage... Its an old western digital..
As I've said I think the Machine sprit is done ans she's moved on

And any one wondering what a Machine sprit is... your looking at them using them all the time and if need be consult your warhammer 40K handbook for more info..
