Title: Buying pets
Post by: blinds21 on March 05, 2006, 12:18:53 PM
Is it possible to possibly get the ability to buy a pet? Like a dog or a wolf or a raven. If it dies, it's gone ofcoarse and you'd have to buy another. but maybe your character could trap one or players could trap animals and sell them as pets. Druids would hate it, but it sucks traveling alone if you are not a character that can acquire a companion

*points to his fighter character who likes to train alone*

We've discussed this possiblity as it relates to having house pets, and it may happen at some point. By house pets I do mean pets that reside in player housing.
I don't know if we'll allow for general, follow-me-around type pets, but who knows.

My main idea for it's downside would have been the lag it might cause if EVERYONE has a pet. Because I know partying causes lag.

Yep...that's surely a concern.  Imagine a party full of people with their pet dogs in tow.  As it is now, people are discouraged from using familiars and animal companions in large parties due primarily to lag.

Gordash had a Dire wolf pet in Beta 4, for about a day, but once it died you had to get another one so nobody really had any.  I'm sure the lag associated with such a thing though would get to be too much.
