Some more complex brewing recipes would be fun. Shall I suggest some or are CNR recipes a unchanging system?
-
Suggest away! CNR recipies are database-driven. Keep in mind your recipes will be subject to our tweaking and adjustment for balancing reasons.

Sake - rice wort, 4 rice grains FORT 30
Wizards Water - oat wort, 1 alchemist fire, 1 bucket water, 1 honey FORT 45
Birch Beer - wheat wort, 1 birch, 1 sugar FORT 10
Miner's Lunch - wheat wort, 3 worms, 1 honey FORT 20
Blackbelly Brandy - rye wort, xeenite wine, 1 leather belt FORT 40
Oak Dragon Pilsner - 1 dark dragon pilsner, 2 oak sawdust FORT 20 (pass results in +1 discipline)

You're forgetting that all of it will need Brewer's Yeast and Water.
-
Yes, all need brewer's yeast, 4 brewing bottles, and 2 hops in addition to what I listed. I didn't think listing that would add anything of value.
-
Why would you need hops in a wine, brandy, or... Er... Whatever sake is?
-
Sake is rice wine and no - I dont think it would be very good with hops in it.
-
But come to think of it...sake is drunk warm.
So if we add sake, we should be able to heat it over the campfire to turn it into "warmed sake". The cold stuff not being drinkable. Except by half-orcs of course.
-
Pfft. Sake is drinkable at room temperature (...adventuring temperature?). I just don't recommend it. Unless you're calling me a half-orc. ;)
-
Focus people, focus! How about some recipe suggestions. Save your philosophical discussions of the nuances of hopped wine versus hopped sake for in-game. ;-)

Here are some tea recipes (all ingredients listed)

-
Some teas are served unsweet. You can always stir in some sugar yourself.

One of the oldest beverages known to man: mead. I don't think we have any recipes for that yet do we?
All I know is that it uses honey. Thank goodness for Google:
basic mead is made with just honey, water and yeast
lots of people add fruit and spices to make their concoctions (but I don't think the Vikings would have been convinced...or had access to any of these ingredients):
honey, water, yeast, vanilla
honey, water, yeast, ginger, raspberries (and moss, honest to god, i dont want to think about that one at all, lets leave the moss out)
other fruit - but apparently usually sweet, soft ones: pineapple, mangoes, peaches, etc. - i dont think we have those on Layo?
honey, apple juice, sugar, yeast
other options to add: cloves, cinnamon, tea

There's always whisky/whiskey, too... According to Wikipedia:
Irish whiskey is typically distilled three times from a mash of several grains. Scotch whisky is typically distilled twice, either from barley malt alone (see single malt whisky), or from barley malts and other grain malts which are then mixed together. Kentucky whisky, called Bourbon, is normally only distilled twice after first fermenting in open containers, and must be distilled from at least 51% corn.
This would give several similar recipes, which would probably require:
One or more worts of the appropriate grain(s) (Whiskey: barley plus oat and/or wheat? -- Single-malt: barley only -- Bourbon: corn)
Water
Brewer's yeast
One oak cask to "age" (new craft item: oak planks + copper wire [wood crafting]), probably consumed in the process (I don't believe the barrels are re-used in RL)
Four brewing bottles to hold the finished product
-
I like the barrel idea. Or could use buckets if there aren't any CNRable barrels.

I also like the "cask" idea but I think the yeld should be 2x normal or Eight (8) brewing bottles. Most brewers will need the Casks made for them. As to: Ozy's Yellow Brick Brandy: 1 Gold Bar, 5 Xeenite wine, 1 Book of Story's, (I'm not a brewer so ?) yeld 10 bottles 8)

Musical instruments!? People, let's get our priorities straight. If work is going to be put into CNR, let's start at the top. *BUMP*
Perhaps the brew recipes could give benefits to RP skills (so as not to take anything away from alchemy and potions): Gather information, persuade, perform, others? Perhaps a dwarven beverage might imbue benefits to craft weapon and craft armor.
-
well those could improve people's skills but theyd be, you know.....drunk.
*chugs several bottles of dwarven ale* ohhhkay then, ahm just gonna start makin weapons now *burp* *someone nearby looks over*"are you sure you should be around a forge"? *the drunk weapon crafter looks over, angry* youuu shaay that again man, say it again! *raises a fist*and ill...and ill....*sways* you ain sussch a bad guy, ill buy ya a round.
