The thread about grappling hooks reminds me...it seems kind of weird that Sen frequently falls when making the climbs in the mountains.
Since he has acrobatics at 18.
Apparently that does not go into the check for climbs?
-
It's a STR check, influenced by level, I believe.
-
That doesn't seem right, shouldn't it be more dexterity oriented? And shouldn't acrobatics help?
It also doesn't seem right by experience, I remember one hilarious time trying to go somewhere - the Greypeaks I think - with one of our lovable giant characters along who just could not get up that rock, kept falling flat over and over - maybe it was Pig? Which would seem to suggest it is not strength, but rather perhaps dexterity...
Unless they're not all the same?
-
All the dexterity in the world won't help you if your strength can't hold up your own body weight. and Tumble is taken into account when you crit-fail a climb check to reduce the damage you take.

There's no logical reason that they should all be the same. Some climbs may depend on balance and nimbleness, others may depend on strength. Maybe some could even depend on both. It all depends on the circumstances of the climb (such as negotiating a narrow, slippery stair or path vs. climbing straight up a rope).
Edit: Heh... who knows... it may even be possible to have climbs based on other attributes. "Now, how does this crazy Gnomish contraption of ropes and pullies work?" *Fail INT check* "Ooof. Apparently not like that."

Our skills like climb, swim, crawl, etc. are all based on a combination of factors. NWN does not truly implement these skill systems, so we fake them up a bit. I don't have the code handy, but it's more than just one attribute.

I see. Its true he doesn't get hurt much when he falls, just embarrassed.
