Kobal has spent a lot of time with Grelian Troff, but they are starting to get on eachothers nerves by now and Kobal would like to leave. While explaining about the hammering of mithril Grelian accidentally dropped his only key to the gate outside his house into the forge, so Kobal cannot leave Grelian's little fort on Firesteep. He tried to climb the walls after having wasted a mithril full plate that Grelian let him work on for him, but even Grelian chasing him with a 60 pound lump of mithril could not make Kobal ascend that wall.
So he took his beating... and has now had enough. He would like to leave... somehow.

Finally Kobal managed to jump over that wall. It may have been a sideeffect from Grelian's cabbage-stew. But who knows... this may just have been one of life's many mysteries.
