Title: New emotes?
Post by: Talan Va'lash on May 16, 2006, 11:43:40 AM
I keep seeing more instances of people typing things like:

*g* or *L*

What the heck his that?

I initially just brushed it off as a typo or... something but I've seen it too many times now for that.  I think.

No matter how I turn my head I can't get a convincing face out of either of those...  what are they?

I say down with that junk! ruins immersion.  Come on folks, four more letters? Doesn't it just feel so much more natural to do *grins*?  Abandon those lazy text messaging and online chat abbreviations!

We prefer not to see TY, lol, nm, *g* etc. while roleplaying. Please consider avoiding such usages as best as possible. Thank you.

Edit: Wait, Talan were you saying you see this in game or in other communications?

Plus, *L* and *g* don't trigger any fire-and-forget emotes in-game.  Thanks to the lovely contextual work in Layo, *laughs*, *chuckles*, *giggles*, etc, all fire the laughing emote, and so forth.  *L* does not.

if you dont wish to hear the Emote all you have to do is add a star **Laughs* Doing this will get no emotes.

(psst... in case you don't want to trigger the auto-in-game-emotes, you can also write: "/o C toggle noemotes")

Heh, acctually I meant in other communications.  Well, sometimes in NWN but not IC on layo.

I was just asking as I'm always confused when new emoteish things come around like those non-sideways ones... ^_^ or whatever

I always thought that *g* was *grins*, just as *L* is *laughs*.  Regardless, I think it's just shorter to type, rather than seeking to disable the visual/audio emote triggers.

I thought *L* was a sudden Alter Self spell to make you look like Leanthar.

*He chuckles.*

"/o C help"  will give you a list of all speech recognition help.
*emotehelp* will give you a list of emotes.

Hope that helps.  ;)
