Title: Naming Oxen
Post by: Nibor21 on July 12, 2006, 07:02:36 AM
Would it be possible to re-name Oxen using a system similar to the naming of horses?

Horses come in two colours and are reasonably rare so it is hard to loose them. Oxen on the other hard are all strangely the same, and often get lost with the host of other Oxen in Hlint. And if someone does loose an oxen they run around talking to every other oxen untill they find theirs. This talking moves all the other oxen which means they are not where they were left......

I have given my horse lightning-mane her name, but my ox thunder-hoof remians un-christened

It's possible, yep...and it's been discussed, just never implemented. It was one of the first uses of SetName() with the 1.67 release, and we set it up for testing with the horses, since their numbers are fairly limited. Since there's been no apparent issues with this, I don't see any reason why not to add the feature. It's about a 10 minute thing, but when you're going through a long list of changes and fixes, "naming oxen" doesn't tend to pop up very prominently.  :)
I'll try to get it put in for the next update, but heh...might slip past me again.

Wow, that would be wonderful. I can't tell you how many times I went running around Hlint, talking to every ox I saw, just trying to find mine.

This wouldn't be an awesome fix, like you know.. maybe when V2 came out, but finding your Oxen can be wicked hard.
