Greetings,
We’re looking for people who would be willing to join our Project Writing team.
As part of this team you will work on writing descriptions of, for example:
- Organizations like the Ineffable Chord, the Bowmore Trading Company, the Pranzis Army Officer Corps and so on.
- Legends&Artefacts, like the Bardic Block, the Lich Skin.
- Dungeons. Most of our dungeons don’t have a story (although several do), Histories or rumors on these would add flavor to them.
- Locales. If you look at the maps and the handbook, you will see that not every forest, river, lake, mountain, swamp or desert has an actual description in the handbook.
- Cities/towns. If you look at the maps and the handbook, you will see that not every village, town or city has an actual description in the handbook.
- And last but not least... Churches. If you look at the handbook, you must have seen the wealth of information on the church of Lucinda, as well as more detail on the Church of Corath. Eventually, I would like to have this for every single church.
In addition, you can also work on expanding already existing things, such as churches or organizations.
What are we looking for:
- Creativity
- Fluency in English
- ‘Feel’ for Layonara (what is meant here is that what you write should fit in the world)
- Adherence to deadlines
- Ability to work well with a team and follow directions
You can apply by posting here why we should select you and in conjunction send a write-up of something of your choice to heretic@layonara.com (heretic@layonara.com) and I’ll review.
I look forward to reading your applications
Thank you and happy writing,
EdTheKet

Are there any specific requirements? Age Limit? Amount of Schooling?
-
No age limit or amount of schooling, no. (Besides, how would we check?). I'll judge the ability to write through the write-up that needs to be submitted as well as the application itself.
-
Well Here goes nothing.
Name: Jessica Lynn
Age: 17
School: Going into my first year of college (English Major)
Writing Experiance: Four years worth of highschool, working as an editor for my english teacher, as well as principal, Working as the writer/editor/web designer for my school's website, writing various articles for the school and local newspaper, Various short stories and one novel in the works, Oh, and all the rp I do counts as well I guess :)
I’ve been playing and enjoying Layonara for four or five months now (Since Late March), and I found myself deeply connecting with the world ever since the creation of my second character Rhynn. I find myself highly dedicated to the fleshing out of my character and very much in love with the world that has been created around her. For this reason more than any other, I would like the opportunity to help all I can in fleshing out the information already provided, and to aid in the creation of new information that fit’s the context of the world.
I’ve been writing fantasy, roughly, since seventh grade (11 years of age). I am now just out of high school and seventeen, so that gives me about six years worth of writing experience. I have done various write ups for school functions and for the school and local newspaper on a regular basis through my high school years, even to the point of editing the writing of various students, teachers, secretaries, and other authority figures (Don’t know how much that says for them). I plan to go into college this upcoming semester as an English major with a focus in writing and grammar so that I may become an editor or a publicist in time.
For the last three years, I have been working on fleshing out the world of a fantasy story/novel of my own, as well as helping a few friends with theirs, so I am familiar in the process needed to add background information to a blooming and/or already developed world.
I can offer various samples as needed.
My availibilitiy as of now is almost constant, but my drop a bit as I enter college.
I thank you for reading over my application of sorts, and hope for the opportunity to help and aid the Layonara team.

Oh, applications close in a week on August 7.
-
I would be interested... I have a history degree with a poly sci minor, so, um, I can write... 50 pages at at time when necessary. I would like to give at little back to the world, since having a history degree doesn't give me much coin to contribute to Big L... Please let me know what you would need from me to apply.
My Thanks,
-
Take a look at what's now in the handbook and send me something like that. For example a description of a town that is not in the handbook yet. Or a legend of someone or something.
-
Oh! I didn't realise you actually wanted me to write something like that...I can write something up post haste, but if you would like to see something similar I did for a world of my own creation..or is what I sent you okay?
-
What you sent was great :)
-
Goodie, saves me the trouble of typing up a bunch of notebooks.
1) If you find yourself, for some reason, shunning a word processor and insisting on writing everything by hand just because. cut your hand off.
2) Don't buy 489573948574039857345 books of the same colour, pile them in the same place, and put different stickers on them then expect to remember what the stickers stood for.

Good to see people committing to getting involved, its what makes this place rock

I'd like to put my foot forward. I've loved to write short scenarios and stories since I was young. I think my grasp of the English language is decent and my imagination runs amok, so creation of items/places/people is not a problem. I have been a DM for years and honed my creative skills on "blank-paper" campaigns.
I've sent an expanded description of a location in Layo, hope you like it.
Thank you for the opportunity to be a bigger part of Layo!

I'd be overjoyed to be able to contribute to this world!
I have been a semi-professional writer for...well, quite a while (Still sending out massive amounts of material in the hopes of dropping the "semi" part of that). Most of what I've had published have been short stories in a couple of regional pulp magazines, and I've done some work for a couple of independent comic publishers. (RadioComix, quite a few years ago, BrokenTree Productions, right before it folded, and a couple of others that printed maybe 300 copies and then dropped off the face of the earth).
My writing is rather visual...although I am able to write encyclopedia-entry type informational paragraphs (made a killing in college writing term papers...OK, so that's not something to be THAT proud of, but it illustrates that I can disguise my style pretty well), I'm a much bigger fan of the narrative. I don't know if that will be useful to you or not, but in my mind, it kind of adds a flavor to a description of a place, like it's being passed from the old man that sits near the village gate to unwary travelers.
I'm sending you a very, very little bit of a sample, just to show you what I mean by what I say. If you are interested in either seeing a larger sample of the same, or seeing me do something altogether different, please let me know. My e-mail is visible on the forum.
Thanks!

Would be very much interested in joining, and I think I'd make a good addition to the current team;
I've been interested in writing/creating things ever since reading the Chronicles of Narnia as a small, small child. After reading the series, I became fascinated by different worlds, different places, things, people, the events that went on, and how everything intertwined and fitted in to everything else.
A few other books which have also caused the expansion of my over-active imagination are the LOTR series, The Hitchikers' series, The Discworld novels, the Icewind Dale series, a few of Tanith Lee's books, most of Dan Brown's books, and almost every book by Robert Ludlum, as well as a variety of other fantasy, adventure, mystery and sci fi books.
Not only do I have a horribly over-active imagination, I like to be 'out there', I'm creative, have no qualms about taking something on by myself, yet I still work well in a group, and get along well with others.
English is my first language, and I'm entirely fluent in it, I'm very interested in other cultures, both fictional and not, which I believe would help.
I've also completed examinations in Speech & Drama and Communication Skills through Trinity Guildhall (Formerly Trinity College of London), and still do them every year.
Started playing Layonara late April, so I've been here a little over three months, I've greatly enjoyed absolutely every part of Layonara, and would like to be able to give something back.
Thanks!

I am willing to put my hand up.
Examples of my writing can be seen in the Character Development Thread for Pendar.
Spend most of my time writing regulatory files for work (sometimes press releases and grant applications as well), would be nice to do something different. And as above, would really like to give something back to the world.
I also have an interest in military history, so I could focus on that area, or giving items unique backgrounds.
-
I would like to apply too.
Name: Artur Polizel, or Lucius Elevefius, both work :)
Age: 17
Writing experience: I've been playing PnP RPGs for around 7 years, and DMing my own campaign for 1-2 years. I always contributed to my gaming groups with stories, new places, or even entire worlds.
I'd like to join the Project Writing team to return something more to the world, Layonara is the best NWN server I've ever played in, and the best PC RPG game I've ever played as well. I have plenty of spare time, even with college getting closer, so I might as well use that and the ideas on my mind to help the world :)
I enjoy writing descriptions of areas and items, did that a few times on my adventures with the NWN toolset (none worked, unfortunately), and I personally like an encyclopedic type of description, specially for locations such as cities. Things like geography and climate even are cool details to add and I try to look at that as well when writing.
Well, that's pretty much what I can do to help, an I hope you like my write-up. The poor bugbears needed a bigger description! ;)
