Title: The PCGamer article Issue 163.
Post by: Rowana on February 29, 2016, 10:57:34 AM
Layonara Online Doesn't want you to play.  The administrators of this RPG world running on a chain of Neverwinter Nights servers don't want you to bring the real world into their fantasy.  They want your character.  Based on a decades old Multi-User Dungeon, and rebuilt in Neverwinter Nights, Layonara is a hardcore roleplaying world.  All characters must fit into the existing fiction, including the exploits of characters long since deceased.  To gain entry. you'll need to 'pitch' to the moderators, with a character biography and role.  Don't forget to include your characters's religion, birthday, and hobbies.  And relation to the Orcs and Undead that plague this world.  And Allies.  And Enemies.  You'll also need to commit a few evenings to reading the documentation.  All 20,000 words of it.  The upside is that by preventing the riff-raff from joining with their roflcopters and lollerskates, Layonara is now one of the most genuine and believable fantasy games around.  Quests are plot-driven and made all the more fun by the fact the people you're playing with are in-character and commited to the fiction.  The hoops are hard to jump through, but the reward at the end is all the sweeter for it. If you feel like losing yourself in a fully realised and alternate reality, and let's face it, we've all felt like that now and then, rush to www.layonaraonline.com (http://../../) with your very best character.
