Title: DSL problem?
Post by: Slithy Tove on October 19, 2006, 11:04:43 AM
Visiting my son and tried to access the game through his phone/DSL line but couldn't connect.  Internet sites are fine, Forums, Lore, etc are all fine but when I try NWN/Multiplayer it can't connect to the master server or any of the other servers.  When I tried through phone/dial-up everything worked fine but I would rather use the broadband connection.  Is there a trick for getting DSL to see the Layonara servers?

Try direct connect to servers rather than gamespy.. ie west.layonara.com, central.layonara.com etc

The ports needed for NWN are probably blocked by a firewall at some point. It could be the DSL modem or router your son has. I have Qwest DSL/MSN and the DSL modems they provide won't allow most online games. Mail and web all work fine, just like you're seeing, but not anything else. I had to get a Cisco DSL modem to work around the problem, and everything's been fine since.  Depending on the type of DSL modem, you may be able to configure it to allow the NWN ports.  If that is the problem, then this link may help.  Good luck.
