Well today class I want to talk about fears. Just joking, but I am about to face something I dont fear. I just dislike doing a lot (ok, it is a fear). Flying. To add fule to the fire, I had nightmares about it last night as I tryed to sleep. That is enough of my fear. I would like to know what causes you to go "I'am not doing that!!!!!" What can cause your blood to run cold, and your heart to race. Flying, and falling are my biggest ones on this day. I am not going to lie to you I got a lot of fears I am just tellling you what mine are on this day.

Spiders. Spiders. Spiders.
Also wasps.
-
Heights. Not so much being on them, but the possibility of falling from them.
Darkness. Not total darkness - that doesn't mess with me. But that edge of light when you can just BARELY understand that your eyes work and are trying to make sense of it all... Ugh.
Clowns. I swear that the next clown to try hugging me will get kneed.
-
I get woozy at heights....but my greatest fear is having to work until I'm 65.
Terrifies me!
And Clowns too....I hear ya Stephen. Ever since Poltergeist....I just don't see how theyr'e supposed to be funny.

Bridges. I lived in Florida for 20 years, lots of really high bridges there. I'm not talking about little flat bridges, I'm talking Sunshine Skyway style behemoths.
Hate those things.

bah, I hate dreaming of flying or falling.. I always hit bottom and wake up. I think I read somewhere you're not suppose to crash. Now the real thing - flying - is a blast!! Nap of the earth - hang on to your luglugs for dear life and pray to god you don't get any closer to the ground in a blackhawk helicopter IS the only way to fly. Huya!

I got to ride in the crew-chief seat of a Blackhawk copter once, it was the most fun ride of my life, especially with the pilot practicing his terrain hugging manuevers all the while talking in a near sing-song voice saying "Hello powerlines, nice to see you today..." and other such nonsense...hehehe. loved it! I've also sat in the co-pilots seat of a Cesna as my friend practiced stall manuevers, that was fun too, but not nearly as much fun as the Blackhawk ride.
Now let's see...what are my fears today? Hmmm...maybe the biggest one is that Windows will decide to download and install another automatic update today and thus shut down the computer for a re-boot and that consequently my computer never re-boots due to whatever elusive problem it is that's been making it a pain in the rump for almost a year now. Runs fine once it's booted, but shutting it down to re-boot is risky because it often gets stuck at a point before even loading the BIOS or anything else. There have been days I've literally sat here for hours turning the darned thing off and back on until it finally un-sticks itself and boots properly.

I fear my lack of fear. I'm not trying to brag, it's really scary. When I was a police officer a few years ago I would conduct searches of people, convienient stores, homes, etc.; all the while looking for someone I believed to be armed and ready to kill me. The scary part was that I was NEVER afraid of getting shot even though my conscious mind believed it to be an ABSOLUTE possibility. I was even involved in a search for a sniper that took shots at other officers in close quarter with a rifle, and again was never afraid.
The point is, fear is natural defense mechanism that keeps you from doing stupid stuff. What is scary is when for some reason that instinct is "turned off." Irrational fears are what people should strive to overcome, but what if you have an irrational lack of fear? Scary huh?
-
Spiders, Moths (Yeah I Know its sad), Birds, or anything with a wing span that can take off or land suddenly (Including Plenariuses) , and total complete silence are my fears.
Oh, And one more if things that are irrational and aren't real count:
Samara and the movie The Ring in general.

Umbrellas. Dead serious. Also, I'm quite fearful of my logical thought process, and take great steps to hinder it as often as possible. I don't like 8bit when I'm 8bit, so to speak.
-
Electricity. Every time I am forced to fix something electrical (not electronic mind you) I shock the bejeezus out of myself.
Oddly enough I like thunderstorms, go figure.

Heights but its sort of weird. Um if im in a building with big glass windows i have to stand against the wall. I have trouble going past the third step on a ladder. but flying gliding and repeling are great fun. Also i can't stand climbing so i guess i really only like the coming down part but i really love that.
Tried to break it by going climbing and repeling once a month for a year and a half with some friends but was freaked out going up legs shaking everything had to pull myself up with my arms to climb and i was harnessed is so there was no reason. And i loved the repeling part, which may have been why i kept going back
Edit: @ Vyris ... i like getting electecuted its happened to me four or five times now and except once when i couldn't use my arm for a while i enjoyed it.

All I have to say is "You have to see the Japanese versions of the Ring 1,2,3,0 the Grudge " You ain't seen nothing yet :)

I hate being afraid! and when it happens I get so pissed at myself that I force myself to face it, whatever it is.

I can't stand heights and roller coasters in particular. I get a mean case of vertigo on roller coasters.
-
I remember the first flight lesson i had with my uncle. He took off and then told me fly and he snored half way through the flight. Well he pretented hehe I knew he wouldnt do it.
-
Spiders, and roller coasters (and I live not far from Cedar Point, how ironic)
I used to be scared of heights, complete with vertigo. After having a ladder slip and being forced to take about a 15 foot sharp downard descent with said ladder, I got up and said '*explitive deleted*..Ow, that *explitive deleted* hurt like a *explitive deleted*', and proceeded to limp for about three days after. Still can't deal with roller coasters, but the vertigo is pretty much gone.
Moral of the story, just like any other piece of machinery, the body responds well to sudden blows and impacts :)

There are three things that scare the life out of me...
Others being disappointed in me.
My basement when it's dark.
And other men's wives. Don't ask.
-
The only thing i fear is the bartender yelling
"Last round !!! There will be no more beer today !!!"
That can realy put me down and make me shiver with fear:)

Two things terrify me.... someone poking my eyeballs, and dragonflies. I am -terrified- of dragonflies... *blushes* I know I know...

While not exactly a fear, that has happened. I was riding my motorcycle down in Florida along the Gulf Cost, happily whipping along doing about 70 or so. I drive through a swarm of those things. I took one on my left eye, and one right in the hollow of my throat. Had I not been wearing googles....anyway.

I fear the most dangerous creature in the universe: a project engineer with tools. They can take the most simple, innane project and have it so screwed up that nothing will work for months.
I also fear the hard landing following the long fall from a great hight.
In game, I mostly fear badgers.
