Im not sure if there is a better place to post this or not, but what is the possibility of creating a tent village as a cheaper alternative to houses. The tents could be relatively small and still give players a place to store things and call their own.

I keep starting and deleting posts asa response, but the only thing that keeps coming to the surface is "Oh, ick." From a game mechanics perspective, not sure what the difference is between a 6x9 tile house and a 4x6 tent. Both would take up module space, both would add to furniture lag, both would take time to build. There is plenty of housing available, it's just spendy.
But a tent city? Oh, ick.
-
tents would be kinda kewl for real woodsy rangers / druids :)
-
only if they were flammable, like real tent cities *imagines some snooty elf, say call him, Mard, sees one, mutters and burns it down*
:)

Once again, I'll try not to step on the dev team's toes... but they don't WANT housing to be cheap, as each house/tent/whatever that is added is a resource sink on the server. Housing is intended to be finite, and the price of existing housing reflects that.
-
what existing housing exactly :P
it's all taken.
-
No, it's not. It's taken where you go. I know of 7 houses for sale right now.
-
The houses on West are most probably already sold, but as far as I've seen, there has never been a lack of houses on Central. :)
-
Regardless, the point was that regardless of size, adding new housing is not something the dev team (historically) has been keen on, understandably. While tents might be neat, it's implementation, rather than the relative merits of the idea, which makes it unlikely.
-
It does not matter whether the outside of player housing looks like a house, a tree, a tent, a rock or a hole...
The problem is that whatever the house is externally or internally, it adds more areas to the module, more placeable lag and the like.
Our modules are huge. West is easily 3 times larger than Bioware ever recommended modules be, and the others are not too far behind. Many months ago, the decision was made to put no more housing onto West. There is housing on Central that's available. V3 will likely add housing to East, and it may add some different exterior options and more dispersed geography to existing housing, but ultimately, we will still set limits on the number of houses.

where can I buy a hole?
-
*snorts his coffee right out his nose at that one, cleans up and thinks about it* yeah where?
-
Well, *hitches up pants with his elbows* I gots me this here hole sale. Now, it's a clean hole, no varmits, no unusual smells. And I'll sell you this hole for dirt cheap price. *snorts* Dirt cheap.
-
Well I ain't got no hole for sale, but I know a nice bridge ye can have for reasonable price. Course to be honest some others might think it be a public way. Still for de right price I will give ye a real pretty deed suitable for framing.
If ye interested post a note on de bridge between Fort Llast and Krandor. I will get back to ye real quick.
Note is NOT SIGNED!!
