Not all Rogues are theives... not all theives are rogues
Rogues have very little in common with each other...
my LG Toranite "rogue" Grant Elanie Elsbie "Gee" auto spawns the "Theives Cant" in his inventory
Now... there is absoloutly no convievable reason why he would even know Theives Cant... and he's not even a theif or a theiving type
I can't remove the item because it's hard coded to spawn on anyone with Rogue levels.
I'd like to see this be a requested item just like any of the other language widgets...
Grant will never and should never know Theives Cant...
-
Does it only spawn on character creation? If that is the case, you can just request it's removal now, and it's over and done with.
Sort of a reverse language ear request.
-
Well, I think the main thing to think about here is "How many rogues DON'T have a reason to know the Cant?" and "How much extra work would it put on the character approvers, making sure that all the rogues have a good enough reason?"
The way I see it, the ratio between the answers to those two questions is too heavy on the right.
-
And in addition, it wouldn't be that hard to RP it in.. most Rogues depend on INT and DEX as their primaries, and a LG Rogue could easily have spent time undercover learning the ways of the local thieves' guilds.
-
Or could just ignore it? Pretend that your Rogue doesn't understand Cant.
-
Personally, I think there are plenty of rogues out there who have no reason to have that particular ear.
And I can see how it would be annoying to ignore things you're not supposed to understand. It isn't even fair to the persons talking in thieves cant, who aren't realizing they are actually being overheard.
A thief is a thief really, it shouldn't be any different for character approving than any other ear request, even easier I'd say.
