With the maps so radically changed (ie.. places that were are no more and others renamed), any thoughts on how to rp changes to character bios or developement threads that use places that are no longer existant? What if a character comes from a place that is no more or a location X is prominant in a developement thread but is no more or renamed? Any ideas on how to work the change into current rp? Also, is the current system going to be considered historical (cue grandpa sitting by the fire telling grandkids what it was like to spend time on the Hlint benches) and the world has evolved from that or will 'Port Hampstead' always have been 'Port Hampstead'?
One last question concerning quests. With old quests passing away and new ones put in place, will quests that a character has but not completed be stripped out if they no longer exist? I have a few quests that I have gotten but not completed and was wondering if they will be removed or will remain forever incomplete.
Thanks and very much looking forward to the new and improved world.

Good questions.

Places that have been removed are due to the Dark Ages which caused a lack of food due to there being no sun and the temperature dropping. As mentioned when they started, millions will die because of this, so settlements will disappear as population drops. In all official Layonara lore renamed places will be considered as always having had that name. Any ideas on how to work the change into current rp?
Well, the skies are dark as you know, and food is scarce, animals die and plants wither, so there's nothing new there. If your home village is no longer there, you'd have probably heard about the people from there banding together with people from other villages as so many have died/starved. will 'Port Hampstead' always have been 'Port Hampstead'?
As mentioned, renamed places will be considered as always having had that name, so Port Hempstead will have never been Port Hampshire. With old quests passing away and new ones put in place, will quests that a character has but not completed be stripped out if they no longer exist? I have a few quests that I have gotten but not completed and was wondering if they will be removed or will remain forever incomplete.
If the quests are removed then they will remain incomplete forever, however, any quest that is getting removed is also getting replaced, so at least you wont be missing out in xp.

As far as I've understood, the places renamed arent RP'ed as if they always have had that name, but they where renamed doing the war. My character fx, will probaly still be calling the places their old name for some time.
If your character comes from Rilara you could say something like, "I come from Alindor, the place that used to be named Rilara."

Please read what EdTheKet wrote above. That is how things are, were, and will be, and he is quite authoritative in such matters.
Regarding Alindor/Rilara specifically...Milara called Alindor Rilara, as he had control over the continent. With that control relinquished, people are once again free to refer to it as its correct name.
There may be a small handful of exceptions to this, but on the whole, and unless told otherwise, the "new" names were always the names.

Read that again please.

right.... then I would like to know why exactly you're changing the names of places, as if they always had that name.
-
I can´t fint the thread for it, but the reason is that many of the names currently in place were names taken from diffrent kinda lore and material. The name changes were done to make Layonara 99,99% unique with names and to copyright them in such a way that they could not be reproduced and used elsewhere. Atleast thats what I think I read. Besides its more fun to play in a unique world, than going to the same mountain of insert: doom, death, horror, fire. :D

Within this same forum (Layonara Server), the first post in the stickied thread (made by Leanthar) about the new maps. See the very last paragraph in the first post:

I know the team is very, very busy... but will there be a list available at some point detailing the name changes (and a list of places that have gone away for whatever reason - preferably with a reason attached if not the generic "abandoned due to dying population")?
This type of info would be very useful for RP and character submission bio purposes.

I'm working on lists for the name changes (though my work on Rilara was lost due to a computer crash! AAARRGH), and have already posted one for Mistone.
As to reasons... I don't have those, otherwise I'd list them, too.

Ahhh... excellent work so far by Stephen!!!
On the whole, I understand the whole "the new name is the way it's always been" policy. I do have one specific special case to ask about, though: Prantz/Pranzis. I've been playing Zug as refusing to use Broegar's name for the city -- is that actually correct, or has it "always been" Prantz?

To pipe in with an opinion, I think I'd be a little miffed if it had "always been" Prantz. That said, I don't think that's the case. :)

Heres a question...
we're jumping 3 years ahead... whats happening meanwhile?

The exact number of years has not been determined yet. In the mean time, things happen, and will feature in the updated lore.

Pranzis -- Prantz
Rilara -- Alindor
Xantril -- Belinara.
Those are the three exceptions I think, however, my word is far from that of Ed or L.
-
Well, are they just the proper names, or are these the names they've always been?
-
I mean those three are the exceptions of things literally changing rather than 'always being that way'
