Title: Idea for a new Layonara specific feat
Post by: Nehetsrev on February 23, 2007, 07:38:34 AM
Okay, I was just thinking this over myself and I'm not sure it's even a good idea or not but here goes:

How about a 'general feat' that anyone can take if they follow a diety to help improve their will saves?  I mean, if you think of the typical fighter for instance, they are pretty much portrayed by the built-in mechanics to be weak-willed and more like mercenaries who jsut do as they're directed.  But here in Layonara we've got this great pantheon of gods, and I think it'd be neat for normally weak-willed character types to be able to fortify their will as a evidence of their level of conviction to their faiths without having to cross-class to divinely influenced classes like paladin or cleric.  I guess what I'm suggesting is a mechanical way of re-inforcing the development of a stronger will through faith than the general 'wishy-washiness' fighters are generally relagated to.  Anyway it's an idea.

So without further adoo (however it's supposed ot be spelled) I offer:

Feat:  Strength of Conviction
Prerequisites:  Character must follow one of the Layonara Dieties
Bonuses:  Character gains a +1 bonus to Will saves, this feat may be taken multiple times and it's effects stack
Description:  Through the strength of their belief and conviction in their god, characters with this feat gain a stronger will to resist being detered from doing what is right in the eyes of their god and the dogma of their faith.

--OR Alternately--

Make it a one-time automatic feat given when a character sellects a diety and make the bonus +2 instead.  Just soemthing to show that character with faith tend to have stronger conviction that help them stay focused.

playing the devil's advocate here: Sometimes on quests Will saves are seen as aversion to things that will possess your mind (For an example: On the Evilness and Greed quest a mindsave was rolled to remember well..the events of the quest basically). Another example would be some sort of object or entity attaching themselves to the character (which has also happened many times on quests: Stating a few: Pandemonial Horses, and the Dagger and the Rose). I don't see how having a faith in a god would detour these things, or, now that I think about it , the effects of spells requiring a will save unless AFTER the spell (Say, dominate person) was cast, the person was then told to do something against the deity.

This seems more of a case by case basis rather than a straight + to will save, and I think there could be better ways to incorperate it into Rp if some thought was put into it.

on the other side of this: I dont pretend to know how anything in PnP, D&D or NWN works , so Im just answering this to what I think, in accordance to strict rp, unattached from dice or pnp rules or anything of that sort.

You mean like this feat (http://nwn.layonara.com/Iron%20Will) that already exists?

And classes of faith generally have will as their high save.

Actually meant it kind of in addition to Iron Will, but much the same, yes.  The difference being the one I proposed would require faith in a diety.  Anyway...it was just an idea I had 'on the fly'.  I suppose I should have put more thought and effort into it before submitting it.  *shrugs*  Not that worried about it really.
