Title: Protection from Spells + Meteor Swarm - CLOSED (not a bug)

It seems that people wearing Protection from Spells, does not benefit from it, when hit by the spell Meteor Swarm.

Ive only tested this in a player like enviroment, but I believe it applies to monsters casting the spell aswell.

I am pretty sure it does apply in a monster enviroment, having seen Storolds modifier when being hit by a meteor storm I would say that if it didn't apply my saves would be bugged. I haven't tested it in a player vs. player enviroment but I am willing to show up for a test if needed

Bug Report

Descrition: When a PC or NPc casts the spells Meteor Swarm, the person getting hit by it will not benefit from the Wizard and Sorcerer spell Protection from Spells, gaining +8 save from spells.

Location: this hapens all over the place

 Verified: Yes.

Reproducable: Yes

Perhaps it is the same as Storm of Vengeance. Where the spellcraft bonus doesn't apply either.

Something to do with, the spell just creating the environment (in this case a meteor storm) and the save is only against the particular meteors heading your way. Being a normal reflex save that way.

Then again, I never really liked Storm of Vengeance being without spellcraft bonus, heh. The spell killed me too often :)

I am not sure this is a bug. I think being hit by a large fiery lump of space rock is somewhat more physical than needing protection from spells.

I suggest a deep hole and a steel hat would be better protection

Well it should work against any spell so it is a serious bug if it doesn't work. And I have seen it work against rift drow since I had a modifier of 30 there, I can't really say anything about other spawns but I am sure it works there.

Official take on this is that 'Protection from Spells' does not and should not protect from the spell Meteor swarm.

The meteors are not magic themselves (they were merely moved above your head using magic). Therefore the damage they do is physical and fire and so no spell protection will work with them.
