Title: Character Build Calculator
Post by: Faldred on March 23, 2007, 09:12:43 AM
In my copious free time (snort!), I'm taking it upon myself to try to customize Kamiryn's Character Build Calculator (CBC) from the NW Vault for Layonara.  Once it's stable, I'll submit it for inclusion in the downloads section.

So far, so good, though I'm running into a technical problem or two.  (The biggies right now are figuring out how to add spellcasting levels to divine PrCs and how to deal with subraces.)  However, those are my problems.

In order to make sure I have the right info in the spreadsheet, I do have a few questions I hope the team can answer:[LIST=1]

I can help you with a few of the anwers.

No this is not correct. You can not choose the next level of Eschew unless you have the previous one. Etc. You would need eschew I, and the abillity to cast 6th circle spells to choose Eschew II[LIST=1]
I can verify that Eschew is indeed available for Epic Level wizards, as for non-wizards I cannot.

Yes Daylight adaption comes to mind, Scent, weapon Profiency Sea Elf. Besides there are some feats that have been altered to suit Layonara standard. Devestating critical have had its str requirement raised to 29. And Time stop is now a feat taken as a epicspell now. Thats the ones I can remember

Anyone can buy into this skill for one point per skillpoint.

Faldred,

Most of this information is available in the "control" HAK for v3, specifically within the massive collection of 2da files.

Is this some kind of external tool or is it something that happens within a module?

The CBC is an Excel spreadsheet that let's you plan out a character's progress, try different class combos, etc.   It's got a ton of formulas and other checks built in to let you know if your choices are valid.  It also produces nifty output.  Here's an example:

Fighter(5), Abjurer(5), Spellsword(10), Elf

STR: 15 (20)
DEX: 16
CON: 10
WIS: 10
INT: 16
CHA: 8

Hitpoints: 150
Skillpoints: 115
Saving Throws (Fortitude/Will/Reflex): 12/12/8
Saving Throw bonuses: Spells: +5, Mind Effects: +2
BAB: 14
AB (max, naked): 19 (melee), 17 (ranged)
AC (naked/mundane armor/shield only): 15/24
Spell Casting: Wizard(5)
Alignment Changes: 0

Elf: (Hardiness vs. Enchantments, Keen Sense, Low-light Vision, Skill Affinity: Listen, Skill Affinity: Search, Skill Affinity: Spot, Sleeplessness)
01: Abjurer(1): Combat Casting, {Scribe Scroll}
02: Fighter(1): Power Attack
03: Abjurer(2): Extend Spell
04: Fighter(2): STR+1, Cleave, (STR=16)
05: Abjurer(3)
06: Fighter(3): Empower Spell
07: Abjurer(4)
08: Fighter(4): STR+1, Great Cleave, (STR=17)
09: Abjurer(5): Maximize Spell, Eschew Materials I
10: Fighter(5)
11: Spellsword(1): {Imbue I}
12: Spellsword(2): STR+1, Spell Penetration, {Ignore Spell Failure 10%}, (STR=18)
13: Spellsword(3): {Ignore Spell Failure 15%}

Sweet little tool, but I still find it easier to do it manually... Then again, that's from someone with that very tool already installed in his brain.

No shwifty gadget will ever replace a healthy familiarity with the rules. :)

Well right now I`m wondering if this little gadget is automatic. And if yes, where can i get it since the thumbnail is only an image with no rule or macros for the excel spreadsheet.

It is about 12 megs so I can't post it here. But if you want me to send the version I have, send me a PM. However, as Faldred has explained, it has been out of date for quite some time. Thanks Faldred for taking this on.

Savefile.com is a good place to host files of this size -- as long as there's activity.  If the file isn't accessed for a while, they remove it.

All that aside, I haven't been working on this for some time.  In fact, ironically, I removed my local copy of the file just in the last week doing a cleanup of old (unused) files.
