Title: Duration of Resistance
Post by: Skywatcher on April 07, 2007, 08:47:00 AM
I would like to suggest that the cantrip/1st level paladin spell "Resistance" be given a duration of turn/level to make it more in line with other standard buffs.  Thanks.

Brings up a question I have had for a while, regarding this very cantrip. It says it lasts for 1 hour, but how long is one hour in game-terms? It often feels awfully short, while the turn/level usually ends up lasting longer.

It's meant to last an hour but it hardly last a minute :(

Actually one hour is 4 turns on Layo, which is 4 RL minutes.

It's natural level is 0 (a cantrip) and it is in line with the power of other cantrips. That is the context in which it should be viewed and the context in which it is balanced.

I've no idea why it's a level 1 paladin spell honestly.

Edit: We actually quadrupled it's duration from standard, standard NWN is 1 turn, and it was bioware that made it a paladin spell. Not sure if that's a PnP thing or if they just decided to do it.

There are other catrips with duration of turn/level (virtue although it doesn't do much.)  My only irratation with the duration is that it ends up being more of a combat buff than a standard buff from a practical standpoint.  One more thing to manage as time passes which makes it not so useful.  This is just a suggestion.  Whatever the team decides is fine.
