Title: Kinai/Christine's Health
Post by: Interia_Discordius on April 25, 2007, 05:51:26 PM
Some of you may have seen me online a -lot- more as of late, and some of you folks gave me Tells to go to school ;) Well, I just wanted to share a little experience I've had lately. Make some forum chatter, in other words.

I'm not sure what exactly the problem is yet, but I've had chronic abdominal pain since about 6th grade.

It's been getting worse anyhow, to the point where I'm pretty much stranded in my bed, out of action, since around the end of March. Maybe a touch before...

I've been ultrasounded, which was by far the most entertaining experience ever. Seriously, drink two bottles of water and don't use the washroom for about 5 hours. You'll see -just- what I mean.

Today I got to go through a CT scan. After drinking two big bottles of Readi-Cat, which tastes like a mix between tanning lotion and spoiled milk, I headed out to the hospital. I got an IV stuck in me and I went through the machine ( http://jnch.nic.in/CT-Scan.jpg ). They started the dye which gives you the most interesting warm sensation, and after a while, I was done!

I was pretty giddy afterwards. I kept gushing to my parents just how darn cool it was. They laughed at me.

So yes, just a pretty much pointless post on my behalf to explain why I'm always online and just to share a little fun I had. I mean, it hurt, but it was fun.

I'll keep you updated if they find any results...I doubt it, unfortunately. If they find what my friends and I think it is, and we think it's a cyst, I'll get to go through a fun story of surgery!

Maybe!

For now, I'm crossing my fingers that it's just not anything serious :)

May the power of Corath numb thy pain and your mortal shell be mended by his necromantic revelations.  You'll be ok, Kin has the power of the dark side on her side.

I'm so sorry to hear about all the health problems. I've had severe abdominal pain on and off (for two reasons) for about eight years myself, so I have some idea of what you're going through. It's so debilitating.

Please take care, eat some nice konji and enjoy any future CT scans! Anything hospital-related scares the heck out of me so I'm glad you get a kick out of it. ;)

All the best

Seriously get better. It's not right when I log on to not see Kin around. I can relate about the abdominal pain, I just had abdominal surgery that didnt heal properly (sighs) but the pain in gone so I wont complain about the open hole I have. Hey, it gives me tons of time to be on layo because I have so many restrictions!!  It was hard though when I was in pain to sit here at the puter. Take care of yourself please.

Hi,
hope everthing is ok.  Any unresolved heath issue is annoying, at least you are treating it in good humour which means that you are part way there!
I had a CT scan on my back last year, they are very cool!

Keep us posted!

Well, I got my results. They ended up in being nothings. Still have a few more tests to go, but I have a feeling they're going to stick me on a bunch of medicines and call it a day :)

Either way, thanks for your kind words, everyone!

So is that a good thing because you don't have whatever they were looking for, or a bad thing because they still don't know what's wrong?

Either way, our thoughts are with you...

I am just curious, did they check for food allergies?  I get severe abdominal pains any time I eat tomatillas, the key ingredient in green salsa.

I remember the weird taste in my mouth when I got the IV for some CT scans.

Maybe my mom gave you the scan, she does that for a living :D

Good luck!

Yay! You don't have PCOS! <3

When I first read the first post, that's what I thought... My girlfriend has PCOS, and I though, right at the word "cyst"... Well, no worries. It's not! Happy! *Cling.*

Did I mention *cling*?

Well, just my thoughts on the matter: Maybe it's not a cyst or something else that can be seen through a CT scan? Not meaning to give depressing messages here, but just a thought. :)

hmm, yes, scary.

have they done a normal run of the mill *female* checkup? tested for abnormal cells in/on/around the cervix?

^been there, done that... it hurts a little when they use the thing tha tlooks like a giant dog nail clippers to take a piece of yer cervix, but.. knowing is better...

and trust me, sometimes knowing is scary... I'm diagnosed, and more or less will be getting cervical cancer: yay me.

Oh, and if you have daughters... get them shot for HPV. Just cause they are perfect and would never do that...  Trust me, when your twenty and going to the doctor and know what cervical cancer is.. its bad.

sorry, tangent that ment nothing really, other than.. I know what its like, and maybe another idea?

Wow, thats kinda obscure. Is it just tomatillas?

Checking for food allegries is a good idea especially since it is a relatively non-invasive and inexpensive test (compared to the stuff they might try to do after CTs where nothing shows up.)

Alrighty then, went back for another test, and voila, answers.

Turns out I have multiple fairly large cysts in my left ovary. Not bad enough for surgery, but I have a loooong time of taking medicines for a while.

I'm just glad to get it all over with.

- And that's hopefully the end of the story :)

Pay very close attention to the discussion of effects and side-effects of the medicines.  You just might decide the knife is better.  Good luck either way.

I agree with Serissa, pharms are always eager to push drugs, and they can cause much harm. Of course the last thing you or your family probably feel like doing now is hunting around for more opinions, but still. Be careful with meds, people with diplomas don't always know exactly what's best. A friend of mine lost someone close to them because of suggested medications - just keep both eyes open when ingesting crazy chemicals.

Listen to MJZ!  She's smart!

Seriously, Meds aren't always to be trusted.  I blame some of my lazy and appathetic nature on Ridilen and Aderal.  I have/had A.D.D. and that medicine made me boring...  To focused on things that now I'm the opposite without it.  (I refuse to go back to relying on medicine)

Even when I'm sick I just let it ride...  If it was meant to kill me then maybe I should just let....  Nah I'm KIDDING!  But I dont go running for Tylenol and Advil when a cold or whatever rears its ugly head.  allergies too.  I'm gonna feel this way anyway when the meds wear off, so just suck it up and you'll get over it faster...

What people are saying is true (I had a friend who took the drugs, but had to get surgery later anyway), but I would advise you to just find out what options you have, and what are the good sides and bad sides of each.  Neither surgery nor drugs is without risk. While I and the others here can offer advice and anecdotes, none of us (so far as I know) are medical experts. Informing yourself is the best thing to do right now. Find some quality medical resources and read a bit before making any decisions.

With that, *hug,* hope you get better quickly, and my thoughts are with you.

Thanks everyone :) And no worries, I trust my doctor. He wouldn't prescribe if he didn't have to!

On the downside, it'll take months for the medicines to do their full job, but... Hey, better than not working at all!

Better every slow day,
//Christine

Glad to hear you know whats going on.

Just to let you know...you may want to give Chinese medicine a try. Especially if your leary about hte drugs you may have to be on for a long time.

Chinese medicine has a long history of dealing with these things successfully (about 4 thousand years).

The acupuncture part can deal with any pain your in pretty effectively nad also help your body deal with the getting rid of the cyts nad hopefully prevent you from getting them again.

Herbal medicine would be highly advised also, btu it tastes like mud adn can be pretty foul. But it works great nad is tailored specifically to you and your condition.

I am a bit biased towards the medicine since I am about ot graduate (2 months woohoo!) but I also come from a background of western medicine. Both have their place and neither can do everything, but for chronic conditions especially, the Chinese medicine can be a far greater help.

Just though I would throw that out there for ya.

Good luck!!:D

There is some website that shows studies on drugs, would have to dig it out somewhere, but they are there.

At least now you know what you are facing, keep your chin up.

Right now, to prevent getting into a whole huge confusing issue, Christine, just stick to western medicine.

If it doesn't work, then look into the other (very good!) options available. Acupuncture and reflexology are typically very good for dealing with chronic conditions, and most herbal remedies do NOT taste like mud. :P Besides, all that most medicines are are the substances in those herbal remedies, concentrated and "purified."

For now, though, just stick with modern medicine.
