LORE describes the generic this and that of the genetics that particular race has. Without good justification, I can't imagine an approver letting you walk off with pink or blue hair on an elf or something :)

But hey, it's their call... I'll say though, I've never seen it happen.

I'm still waiting for the submission bio that says... "and then he dyed his hair".  Nobody's ever tried that I think, as simple as it is.  I suppose it'd require some 3 paragraph long essay to explain in detail why a submitted character dyed his hair; not that most punk rocker kids think that deeply into the whole process mind you.  Most of the ones I know looked in the mirror and randomly decided they look better with a green mohawk and just did it without delving into the deep psychological meanings behind it all.  Of course, everybody want's to be special and born with weird hair with some big familial curse or something behind it, so it's not like I've ever seen a submission rejected because somebody decided to dye their hair in a mundane fashion.

Back on Lands of Acheron, I played a Half-Orc bardarian named "Zigfried Glammoroth" who dyed his hair blue.  His story was that he was raised by wood-elves who used to shoot arrows at him in the woods and pretend all orcs looked alike, so it wasn't their fault.  He dyed his hair bright blue to prevent that excuse, and ripped the arms off any in his elven tribe who'd try him thereafter.

*shrugs*  If a character habitually dyes their hair and includes it in their submission, and it doesn't seem gratuitous, I don't see any reason it'd be a problem.  Pink hair, mind you, would still be unlikely, simply because effective hair dye other than, say, henna, would be hard to come by.

Is purple still possible?
Maybe I'll have Kinai and Hawk's kid's hair will be pink. Haha.
Magic always works when dye doesn't! Color spray, anyone?

Rainbow colored hair...

They're Shadonites. I think Pink hair is acceptable.

And hey, if we get all the clothes dyes, including blues which are quite expensive, why not hair? ;)

*grins*  Ever tried using clothing dye on hair?  You tend to lose it. ;)

Pfft, NwN game mechanics... This is where imagination comes into play!
And heck, a Shadonite's nuts...They can find ways to dye their hair, then market the technique for insane amounts of gold.

*chuckles*  Ooops. Should've clarified.  I meant, using RL clothing dye on RL hair.  You lose the hair, not the dye.  Well, I suppose you lose the dye too, but the hair's the important part. ;)

You've tried to use clothing dye on hair before?
*worries*

Nah, splashed some red clothing dye on my arm when dying some macramé rope.  Lost the hair by the splash for a month or so.  To the credit of this thread, it DID stay red until it fell out, though.

Really? Sounds like a better way compared to the generic ways of getting rid of hair.
Hmm, is it toxic?

Probably.  The hair on my arm didn't look normal for a year or so, and there were a bunch of warnings on the dye package.

Sadly I saw some one in game recently with pink hair...on an elf.....or was it purple? still both strange and ridiculous too I personally thought.

Purple hair, yup.
Dunno, odd hair colors do seem to look better in real life. I was playing around with them on NwN SP, and they tend to look more like, well, a block of clay or something for hair.

*sigh*
Sad day.

Naturtint product guide (http://www.naturalhairdye.com/color/naturtint/naturtintp/index.html)

All made from vegetable dyes.  Interia might check out "light mahagony chestnut" which, if I'm not mistaken, has a purple sheen in the light.

There!  Purple hair for Layo!

I have no doubt hair dye is possible with Layo level technology, but would someone in Layo think to dye their hair a non-natural color? I mean, sure someone had to think of it first, but colored hair surely doesn't have the same social meaning in Layo that it does in our world. Maybe a barbarian dying their hair red in a ritualistic representation of blood or something like that. I can just see peasants running in fear or grabbing pitchforks to combat the obviously demon-possessed creature with fearsome pink hair.

So that's what happened to Storold's hair. He tried to dye it blue!

If you can make a potion of speed and oils that make an axe look like it's on fire, hair dye seems like a very simple task in comparison.  If only we could rub weaponfire oil on Hrothgar's bald head and painted his face like a skull, he'd look like Ghostrider!

for those that remember, sakura had pink hair back in the day.

I didnt think it looked that bad, that or i just have no taste which could be true too.

Oi, speakingof dye..I need to run to the store for more pink...my hair is fading out! :( Yay for cupcake pink! :D

Oh..and erk had the dark blue hair, but that was because I was trying for the black with blue highlights sortof..but it still looked alright on the dwarf. Hehe...I almost made him a really smurfy when I created him...his love of alchemy got him into trouble once...;)

My character, Treana Min E'zoenna, is a Human with aquamarine colored hair, she also has slightly pointy ears like an Elf.  I RP her unique appearance as a genetic anomally resulting from far distant cross-breeding somewhere way back in her lineage.  However, she was approved about a year ago when rules regarding hair-color for characters weren't as strict as they are these days.  I came over to Layonara at a time when the ad for it still touted characters could even be from other worlds originally, and thus some aspects of character creation were more open for such unique characteristics.

On the other hand, while Treana is unique in appearance, I'm glad the shift was made for more emphasis on 'natural' looking characters to some degree, as it does help preserve the 'world' of Layonara's integrity.  Indeed, my characters since then have all fit with the world of Layonara much better, and as a result have been more enjoyable to play.  Sometimes it's a good thing to be forced to consider other options than our normal choices.  ;)
