But Sir .. I have 5 children to feed, the roof is leaking, their shoes have holes, we cannot afford even to pay attention, last week a burglar invaded our shack and ended up leaving money for us, the children have two bits of cold gravel, work twenty-four hours a day at mill for six true every four years!

I suppose I can offer 40,000 true but I will see it as a crime against humanity if any bid higher ... please, remember the children.

I suppose I could raise additional funds ... if I extend little Timmy's indentured service in the coal mines ... and my youngest still has both kidneys, she probably can function on only one ... I can shave baby Betsy's head, the wigmakers in Hempstead will pay good true for those raven-hued tresses ... we could all go to half rations ... go without firewood this winter ...

   It is a travesty that you are willing to sacrifice you families lives on the altar of fancy footwear.  I now feel that in addition to the utility of the shoes for my profession it is my moral obligation to save your familiy from your overgrown penchant for fine footwear.
