Does one get more XP for fishing with a rod etc. than for fishing with a bow?
I've heard that it does, but on some long-past experimentation, I don't recall that it did.

Yes, you do get more xp from the fishing rod. The bow may be quicker and easier, but taking the time to dig up the bait and patiently wait for a nibble gives you something like two times the xp or more than just snagging the fish with an arrow. I think it's because that while shooting a fish with an arrow is an incredible feat, you learn more about the fish and its habits by patiently watching it and understanding its diet and psychology. "mmmmm, worm yummy. Ow! jaw hurts. can't breathe, can't breathe. Monster hitting me with oar..." There is much wisdom in that.

Upon playtesting... No. I don't receive any more XP for fishing with a rod than with a bow.
On a Catfish, that's 3 XP. For a rod or with a bow.
-
Actually you gain more fishing XP if you use a bow... at least Grohin do...
Which lead me to believe Stephen is right and you gain same XP with either using the bow or the rod... but each uses different skills... so depending on the person, one get more XP with either the bow or the rods...
Just my idea... I really don't know if this is the case or not... But what I know is that Grohin did gain more XP using the bow than the rod.

I would guess it all depends on the fish being fished for, along with the character's skill level.

I really doubt there is a difference of XP for the items used. Not positive, but seems kind of pointless to me.

Very strange. It seems like the XP gain for fishing must be variable on what stats you have, kind of like how people with lower strength get different xp/percentages for success in forging than those with higher. With Bjornigar, I usually get much less xp from using a bow than fishing with a rod, so I'm thinking the rod must be factoring in his 8 wisdom somewhere in there to give him a little bump in xp vs. bow-style. Guess we have to ask one of the coders to know for certain!
