Hi, all! This question may have been answered previously in some other thread -- if so, just point me at it.
My PC died the other day on Central with no money in her pocket (not trusting her feckless paladin companion, she had deposited it all in the Leringard bank before traveling there and also bound herself to the nearest bindstone in Dalanthar). Upon respawning, getting her grave and returning to West, she found herself unexpectedly richer by 1100 gp. However, when she went to deposit this gift from the Soul Mother (yeah, right ;) ) in her bank, to her horror her balance of about 2000 gp had mysterioiusly become 0.
So my question is -- is this a known side-effect of dying on Central right after you have traveled there from West? And what happened to my other 900 gp? Death taxes? :\\
Since Windows Vista has apparently decided to eat all my logs, this post is just for information, not to ask for any reimbursement. If this is not a one-time bug but a result of something stupid I did, I would just like to know so I can prevent it from happening in the future.
Thanks for any enlightenment you can provide.

Well, I think I figured out what must have happened -- like a doofus, I probably selected "Withdraw Everything" rather than "Deposit Everything" from the bank menu. I never opened my inventory on Dregar to notice that, but If I was a little richer than I remembered (2200 gp), then when I died the Soul Mother very appropriately reaped her half, leaving me the remainder.
Okay, next question -- why do we only do stupid things like that the one time when it actually matters, rather than the 99 other times when it wouldn't have made a smidge of difference? If anyone can answer that....oh, wait, I think somebody named Murphy already did.

It's kind of scary to realize during a quest that one had just withdrawn a six digit number... Luckily, no death at that time! :p

Don't worry being a "doofus" is a full time job for some of us...:D
-
Not only is it a full time job, but it can be very difficult to do correctly.
of course i've had so much practice tha i make it look easy.

@Kirbiana - Feckless paladin companion? A tortology!
@Weeblie - You have too much money.
@Merlin - Not only is it a full time job, I pull a fair amount of overtime as well.

*looks for Weeblie to mug him*

"Wow, great! Now I have enough money for my armor! That is gret that I survived the wisps and the lizardman! Now I'll just follow this pretty road to Hlint and put the money on the bank, and heal myself, since 3 hp is bad. Good luck that I'm on the road, great. Wait, why are those halfling after me? They NEVER attack someone at this dis....oh...
......got to kill some more lizards..."
I know EXACTLY what you mean, friend.
