I need to know about the custom textures in the server.
The problem I have is, some of the custom content areas [example: Dapplegreen] do not display the textures correctly, looks like my character is on a snow field...
White textures and some bugged trees too. But I can see some of the [what I think is] custom trees and whatnot. Though things like the gate and stonewalls of Crimson Eagle's display really odd, white and/or messy.
It was a marathon of google and command lines to set up the game properly and now this is the only thing keeping me from playing.
Questions:
Do these textures support 64bit systems?
Can it be a problem on my configuration, seeing the original campaigns and expansions work properly?
Should I try and install CEP, maybe it'll make a difference even though I doubt it?
Anyone run into the same problem?
I sent Chongo a PM regarding this since he created the new areas and stuff but I decided to make this public, since he might have no idea what I'm on about and I don't wanna be taking one's time too much.. There are some other Linux veterans here and I think that maybe they can help me.
Thanks in advance.
PS: I apologize for the people I had deals/RP with but it's really bummer to play with the textures looking like . I would like to get this resolved before getting back in game for good.
-
This sounds like a video driver issue to me. CEP would make no difference as we don't use it though we do have some of the stuff that is in CEP.
-
I'm on my Windows boot side right now, so I can't give you the exact instructions....But can you do the 'glxinfo |grep vendor' thing on your terminal and tell me what it says? It was either that or 'glxinfo' by itself...You'll have to tell me. Sorry, been a while.
-
glxinfo | grep vendor displays:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
server glx vendor string: SGI
client glx vendor string: ATI
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
-
And what distro of Linux did you say you used?
-
SuSe 10.2
-
You need to install the xlib. Do you know how?
-
Yep, though I got xlib installed.
-
I personally used an ATI card for Linux with NwN, and due to that, I had the same exact problem...It ended up with me having to use a dual boot with Windows to play NwN.
Give me some time, and I'll try to see what I can do for you. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did :)
Edit: The thing I tried to do was installing fglrx...Didn't work for me, but have you tried it?
-
Yep, I did. The problem seem to be with ATI cards, mine's a ATI Radeon 9600 [128MB]
I'm trying to reinstall the ATI drivers and setup the config. =]
-
Wish I could help more for you :( Sorry about that.
-
Have you tried lowering all your game video settings? Might be something in there. I have no problems with any of the areas with my Radeon 9600 (fglrx) on Debian.
-
That's because you got it setup correctly ;]
I tried changing all of the setting In-game, but gamma and resolution won't work. and textures do change but the ones that I can't see i still can't see..
-
If the game runs, you don't have any lib problems. If you do, it wont run or will break before you can get into a game.
You're not running it in wine are you?
---
I'm running ubuntu on a 64 bit dual core machine w/a nvidia card and it works great after a ton of screwing with libraries and such. but if any of the graphics libraries are missing the game won't run afaik. Oh, I'm also running Xorg rather than xFree86
It may be the ATI thing, my apple has an ATI card and some textures are odd. Some were even white before one of the nwn patches about a year or two ago.
I suppose it's possible you made some mistake in getting the textures from the windows install (unless it's only custom tex's that are broke)
---
Sorry that isn't very helpful, however I'd say it's a good bet that this isn't a lib problem.
-
Game runs perfectly, other than some of the custom textures.
Not WINE, I'm using the Linux port.
I didn't get any textures from the windows install.
I'm betting it's some kind of setting on the ATI card that is preventing me to display those textures, but I'm clueless at this point.
Thanks though.
*goes back to ati and opensuse pages*
-
what's output of "glxinfo | grep s3tc"?
-
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
-
Yeah, those white textures are usually sign that GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc OpenGL extension is missing.
Are you using fglrx or open source drivers? And if you could either upload or PM me your Xorg.0.log (unless you already checked it)? I'm currently at work, but wouldn't mind a distraction...
-
fglrx, and here goes Xorg.0.log:

I think that's fglrxinfo output you posted, right? Xorg.0.log is file under /var/log/, but by the look of that output, it should be OK... just to be sure, you can run:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep "(WW)"
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep "(EE)"
Anyway, if you run:
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose fglrxinfo
and
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose nwn
Do you get same initialization output? Any errors for nwn? And on a side note, if you're running any other 32-bit OpenGL apps, do they work alright?
-
Nope that's my Xorg.0.log that I posted.
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose fglrxinfo gives this:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
libGL error: XF86DRIQueryDirectRenderingCapable failed
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI RADEON 9600 Series
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (2.0.6458 (8.36.5))
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose nwn gives:
/usr/local/bin/nwn: line 12: ./nwmain: No such file or directory
I'm thinking I have to use something other than XFree86.
glxgears runs fine.
Now from cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep "(WW)" I get:
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/local" does not exist.

And from cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep "(EE)" I get :

(EE) AIGLX error: dlsym for __driCreateNewScreen_20050727 failed (/usr/lib64/dri/fglrx_dri.so: undefined symbol: __driCreateNewScreen_20050727)

I'm not sure how ATI's versioning goes (NVIDIA user here), but you do have latest drivers installed, right? 8.40.something?
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose nwn gives:
/usr/local/bin/nwn: line 12: ./nwmain: No such file or directory
My bad, that should've been:
cd your-nwn-install-dir
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose ./nwn
I'm thinking I have to use something other than XFree86.
glxgears runs fine.
On a 64-bit install, glxgears should be 64-bit, too...
And from cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep "(EE)" I get :
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(EE) AIGLX error: dlsym for __driCreateNewScreen_20050727 failed (/usr/lib64/dri/fglrx_dri.so: undefined symbol: __driCreateNewScreen_20050727)
(EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering
Not sure if this is of any relevance, but it can probably disabled by adding:
Option "AIGLX" "off"
under "ServerFlags" section of your xorg.conf file.
-
Yep, latest drivers installed.
My sistem is
AMD 3000+ box
512 RAM
ATI RADEON 9600 [128MB]
opensuse 10.2
kernel 2.6
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose ./nwn just starts the game, and texture still don't display.
-
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose ./nwn just starts the game, and texture still don't display.
Any output to the console?
-
Nope.
-
I'm thinking it might be cause I'm using X.org, but it still says xfree86 all over the place.. I have read al kinds of possible configuration for xorg.conf
tried installing, reinstalling and updating all ATI drivers and setting them up by
ldconfig
aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf
fglrxinfo displays everything as normal, but the video card won't work as it's supposed to. It's kind of tricky this one because I can see some textures fine, even when all of the video setting in-game are to the maximum or to the lowest. Just some areas and some trees that won't display and by now i'm almost sure that one/some of the video card's features aren't enable [ no idea how, it -should- work ]
I can't help but think pixel shader, texture compressing and whatnot.. And if that's the problem, I might have to downgrade from openSuSe 10.2/Xorg7.2 to something that is not known to hate ATI cards.
Your help is very appreciated, though.
-
How about:
cd your-nwn-install-dir
export LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose
./nwn
-
For the first command:
bash: export: `./nwn': not a valid identifier
For export LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose nwn
no output.
-
What about the "fixinstall" command or whatever it is supposed to be?
-
I had a similar problem with a NVidia card, some texrures where displayded wrong.
One question I have is, was the Radeon allways (since the last format c:) in your Pc or did you change the GraphicCard?
And another point is that sometimes the newest driver has some problems with older games. I have an old driver installed for my NVidia Card and now NWN is running well, with all textures...
-
...
Fixed.
Took me out of the game for some days...
Apparently compiz and NWN don't go together on my system. Running NWN without it seems to do the trick. I -knew- I had installed and configured everything properly, I now knowI'm not insane now at least.
Thanks for all the posts and help, especially bytor.
See you in-game.
