Well the title say it... If you had to name one song, what would it be?!
(allright if it is completely impossible a short list is fine aswell ;) )
I have one song in mind but will have to listen to it and some others first to ensure myself hehe

Battle Hymm of the Republic.
I get shivers just thinking about it.
-
Unfortunately, my opinion on the best song changes from time to time.
For the Brits.... check out Radio 1's "Live Lounge".. RazorLight's live GoldenTouch is classic
Evanescence - Going Under always makes me thing of Layonara considering the amount of times i was listening to it whilst the Explorer's were off getting paggered somewhere.
And since I just "refound" it again Oasis - "Songbird" is another classic.
And for fun.... Tenacious D " Tribute ( Best song in the worl ) "
Oh...er.... that kinda throws out "the" best song... since I've mentioned four. But....there you go ;)
-
Best song ever..Hmm, the one song I can listen to over and over and never get tired of.
Within Temptation -- Angels
-
YouTube - Burnin' For You - Blue Oyster Cult (http://youtube.com/watch?v=bo2Aypi0R2c)
-
Well the best song should be something you never ever get tired of. So for me, I'd say Hoobastank - Pieces.
Why? Dan Estrin is a genius. The song has absolutely amazing guitar riffs and cords. This is the song that made Hoobastank what it is and is a bright example of Hard Rock at its best.

Gym Class Heroes, shoot down the stars. Great song the first got me hooked.
MySpace.com - GYM CLASS HEROES - Geneva, New York - Indie / Hip Hop - www.myspace.com/gymclassheroes (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=952000)
Also I have to agree with LordCove and say Tenacious D, Tribute...because this is not the greatest song in the world! no, this is just a tribute ;)
-
The best? Depends on when and what mood... but this is one of the top 20.
A perfect circle - Orestes
YouTube - The Fountain w/A Perfect Circle - Orestes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cz7Rkuupnpo)
-
Wondrous stories - Yes
-
Totally agree with Harlas, dependant on time, mood and place.
I had a friend pass away earlier in the year and at her funeral a choir sang Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah which right then and there became the song that has affected me more than any other.
Up until that point, maybe Storybook Love by Willy DeVille which was our bridal waltz song (a bit redneck I know, but hey, I was 20).
Afterthought: also Mother by Danzig. Always makes me lament they couldn't let their fascination with things Satanic go and sing about more general wholesome stuff.
:)
-
Pink Floyd - Time.
-
Impossible to pick one.
I love music from all styles. Most of the hip hop I like i couldn't post due to their titles. Same goes with some of the metal songs.
However, to throw a spanner into the works I'd have to say one of my all-time favourite tunes is by Antonio Vivaldi's four seasons, 'Concerto No. 4 in F minor', otherwise known as 'Winter'.
-
Okay it took some time and I have to say there is no "one best song". I listened even moer to music than I do anyway and I find an answer though.
Best-overall-Song:
>>Dream Theatre - Change of Seasons
2 songs that have a special emotional meaning to me:
>>Whitney Huston - I will always love you
>>Shakira - Underneath your cloth
3 Special Prices for.... *shurgs* Special price :D
>>Ayreon - The Human Equation (not a single song but an album dealing with a story and all songs are directly linked so I treat them as one, makes it easy for me, hehe)
>>Opeth - The Drapery Falls
>>Carlos Santana - Samba pa ti
I could go on with the list till judgement day, but this are the most important to me. And I want to say thanks for the answers sofar, very nice songs among them (some I didnt even knew before), special thanks for bringing up "Tribute" the song and the video are just to cool and for PinkFloyd - Time. This would be probably one of the next ones on my list!

Bit of an odd song, I just recently came to hear it after the latest Weeds episode. The vocalist has a great voice, and she plays the keyboards fantastically.
But the song still is a bit...weird to say, enjoy:

Going to throw a different kind of music out here. I always have problems picking a favourite song, I once sat down to listen to a few favourites, needless to say, I didn't get out from behind the PC for a long time.
Anyway, here goes, no clip for this one, so enjoy the music and watch the beautiful colours:
DT8 Project - Hold me till the end
YouTube - DT8 project - Hold me till the end (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUT7sPWHis8&mode=related&search=)

Hehe... kind of brave to post a song like that in a mostly rock/metal ruled thread :p
I recently heared another song which I think is worth posting (could start another thread but I decided to stop spamming the forum with new music threads so I post it here ;) )
==> YouTube - Into the Night - Chad Kroeger/Santana (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBe0dNZk8lA)
That is the result if you put together a guitarist who you recognises among a thousand others with a voice you recognise among thousand others, too!

Hehe... kind of brave to post a song like that in a mostly rock/metal ruled thread :p
People who listen to Trance/House/Electro/insert another EDM genre are kind of used to the fact that the majority listens to something else.
Makes us feel special *grins*

I don't know about "Best Song Ever", but "Really fun song that never fails to lift the spirits"...
YouTube - Great Big Sea - When I am King (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgBzq488YUk)

I love the Dresden Dolls, but...
Honestly, I'm right there on Mother by Danzig.
-

MySpace.com - Disciple - K-Town, Tennessee - Rock / Progressive / Alternative - www.myspace.com/disciplerocks (http://www.myspace.com/disciplerocks)
Things Left Unsaid

Thanks for sharing, that really gave me the heebie-jeebies, with this background.
-
Sly and the Family Stone is the best funk band ever... YouTube - I Want to Take You Higher (http://youtube.com/watch?v=v3pFywio0yM)
-
On purely mathematical terms the best song ever is "Who Let the Dogs Out" by the Baja Men (yes I hate that song too, but I can show you the charts and graphs to prove it)
As far as artisticness and all that stuff goes there really can't be a "best" but Joy Division sure is up there-
YouTube - JOY DIVISON + Love will tear us apart + (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNMbuygEju8)
Oh and Yngwie bows down to Nitro for 80's hair metal ridiculousness
Nitro - Freight Train (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3805245790304828464&q=nitro+freight+train&total=19&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0)

-
four walls black by genitorturers is good too on the metal side
-
Sorry to bring the tempo down again :) I ran across this today on Youtube and thought it was good. It's a song with a message that I had no idea existed out there. It's by one of my favorites "Plumb"
YouTube - Plumb: "Cut" Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEGoHi5HDn0)
I guess it's an awareness song. Anyway once your done with it one of my all time favorites is
YouTube - Ella Enchanted - "Somebody to Love" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5_gtIj7L84)
Mooneyes
-

Suuuuch a good band. Mix of metal, goth and classical music. I love them.
-
Thanks Mooneyes you posted it in that oreder. The first pne pulls you really down and so its good to have a happy song after that to bring back the good mood and the video is nice too
Allthough Queens version is the best hehe
Oh and for everybody who doesnot know the first song on my list here is a link YouTube - GH2 Custom Song: Dream Theater - A Change Of Seasons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nue36kDfbZY)
Just a stupid Guita hero version but it is the only complete version I found... it last 23min...so if anyone has time for it, enjoy :p
