A couple of night ago, I started this quest (with some help from Jaigan Drakand) and we got through the crypts to the "boss"...
But for some reason, neither of us could damage him...we both got "weapon ineffective" messages and eventually had to run for it.
Was this a fluke? I was under the impression that this was a newbie quest, but it seems like I'd need a +1 weapon to damage him...which would be like level 5 or so, right?
As a lvl 3 (now 4) druid, I don't a lot of offensive power yet, so I'm not sure how to finish this.
Unless...I just considered this...maybe there's another way to defeat him other than straight on attacking?
Might need to double-check that...
Anyway, a little info would be appreciated.
Thanks,

This guy has something like /-5 Damage reduction or resistance.
Only a really strong hit ( Power Attack ) or a +1 Weapon is likely to hurt him.
-
I think that's the way it's meant to be. There are ways to get a weapon to be magical temporarily or to do magical damage but most of even the lowest level quests require some help to complete. This is by design I believe to encourage people to work together.
-
well I do know a way to do it, however it will cost more then a level 3-4 would normally have in their bank. :D that's why I always say we will have to find someone with the magic ;)
-
Hmmm. It seems strange that it should be a newbie quest and essentially un-doable by newbies. Our party was only 2 people, but we had no trouble getting through the crypt *until* we met the boss. Suddenly, we were outclassed. (We had a third person in the party earlier, but she had to leave...but I think with 3 people we still would have failed.)
Maybe I should check my druid spells, but I don't think I have anything that can enhance my staff...guess I'll have to move on for now...

from a fellow druid character i leave you with this
dont always assume the most straight approach to a defeat an enemy
your friends you bring can always assist you in reaching your goal
-
@Jaigan: Now I understand why you suggested that. :)
-
It should be fairly straightforward with a mage or cleric in the group too...
-
Actually, as a druid, I'm pretty sure you have ways to enchant weapons- if not your own, an animal's- [LORE]Druid Spells[/LORE]. But yes, I can confirm that this is doable by a group of 3-4 2nd level characters.
Also, you play a druid! holy , where were you like a week ago... needed a druid like woah... :p ..... I'll keep an eye out for ya.
-
Ayup. It's designed for a party with a primary spellcaster in the group. As a Druid, you should actually be able to handle it... Don't forget that you can call upon aid from the natural world... And, in turn, aid those companions you call with your own nigh-magical touch.
(He's got DR 5/+1. Makes him a tough boss to beat, though I managed it with a Dwarven Fighter at level four, with copper everything. Barely.)

you could have come got khuren out of jail milty

Magic Fang, I think, is the name of the spell. As a Druid a lot of your offensive power won't show up until you get your Animal Companion.
I'm submitting a druid now, darnit.
-
you get your companion on creation
and there are other offensive ways a druid is of use as well
-
find a wizard who knows fireball.I killed it in one hit with one.51 damage!
-
Ya know, I was thinking about using my animal companion, but I hesitated to throw her in against a boss I couldn't even damage. Maybe a little magic fang action, with some offensive spells (I think Flame lash is all I have) can do some good...
Worth a shot, I suppose.

@ Falonthas... thought about it.... but it would have taken more than Steel to break him out (not to mention the kind of danger Steel would put himself in had he done that), and Steel didn't have the time to argue a defense for him in court.
-
i should have just flown off when they arrested him
-
Jaigen knows how him and Chaynce defeated the beast... if he has a character of a similar (same?) name.
-
haha, by the way I watched him bust a door the other day O.o we wasn't as safe as we thought.
-
Plus, the "newbie" quests scale a bit. Once you finish the rat quest, the Vehl quest isn't as hard. Once you beat that, you get a friend or two and go kobold hunting. And so on.
(My level 5 cleric managed the Vehl quest by his lonesome the first time. :) )
-
Thanks for all the advice. I was able to finish him off finally, although my poor wolf companion was killed in the process, she did manage to seriously would him after a little Magic Fang action.
So, where can I find me some kobolds?
I've been doing some exploring and found myself WAY in over my head several times. Had a nasty run in with some Gnolls last night...
Kobolds sound like they are right up my alley...
Thanks!

I healed him to death essentially. But not after he wiped out our goblin tribe once or twice trying to do so. Thank Dorg/Leanthar for the lax death penalties from 1-3rd!
