Hello all, name's Tony but you can find me pretty much anywhere online as Vipre or Vipre60000.
I'm from Florida, been playing NWN for about two years total, about one multiplayer on the City of Arabel PW. Great server with great players. I was totally new to RP and one of the players really took me under his wing and helped me fit in. I grew up on CRPGs starting with the "Goldbox" Pool of Radiance but I've always wanted to get into PnP D&D. I have everything but have never had the chance to play. Neverwinter is a close as I've gotten.
After coming across Layonara and spending five straight hours reading through the information for new players, rules, FAQ, forum and digesting the Campaign handbook (still not there yet), I'm blown away by the detail that's gone into this world.
I want to take a character put him in a living world, see where he goes and watch him grow. Will he end up forgotten in some nameless dungeon, will he become a wealthy merchant, a hardened mercenary, or will he risk everything in defense of innocent villagers?
I have a character outline and I'd really like some advice and input on how to tailor it to the world before I submit it. I want to get a good impression of who he is and how the world's events have affected him.

Would be funny if he Died in the Nameless Dungeon, since we have one NAmed, "The Nameless Dungeon"... Kinda defeats the point but ;)

:D I got a chuckle myself from that and almost edited the line to avoid confusing "a" nameless dungeon with "The" Nameless Dungeon.

Welcome Tony, this thread is as good as any to begin discussing some of your character plans, the community may be able to help you tie it into the world to your liking.

If you want some help with your outline feel free to send it to me or find me someplace where we could talk. I love helping out :) But the Character Approvers here are A+ First Class, too. They help out a lot...

I took today and fleshed out some basic deatils on the character with ((notes)) where I feel details are needed that I don't know enough about specifics to fill in.
Would it be a bad idea to post the outline here? I could PM it to you both if you'd like.

Your best bet, actually, is to come up with a skeleton of a character submission, and submit it. The reviewers (the most feared and hated of which is yours truly) will then pick it apart and tell you what needs to change and what details we'd like to see. :)
A few words to the wise:
While the Handbook still has a lot of good information, many things have changed. Among them:
- Blood's dead.
- After his defeat, a period called the Dark Ages reigned, when the skies were blotted with soot and dust, and the sun was never seen (think nuclear winter). Plants died, people starved. This lasted from 1402 to 1420. It is currently 1430.
- Lots of place names have changed. If in doubt, check LORE, which now has updated place names.
- Some deities had their portfolios shuffled a bit, but their LORE pages are still pretty reliable.
- Fort Vehl (seedy) and Port Hempstead (not so seedy) are the new starting locations, rather than Hlint.
Other than that, all I can say is "welcome" - and that you've chosen a great server to come to. :)

Read about Blood's death.
Character's father left soldiering to become a ((farmer)) in 1410. But now it doesn't make much sense he'd do that in the middle of plant failure throughout the world.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. :)
First revision of the character submission is up head over and give it a readthrough. Hope it helps add a little depth to his motivation and gives him a believable tie to the world, but I'm no pro writer so it probably reads like a bad comic strip.

Enjoy your stay with us here at layonara, I've seen you ingame couple of times, not actually rp'ed with you yet, but don't worry, people herer are great rp'ers, they may intimadate you at first but if you keep trying to join in you will be accepted in no time!
