the description says that the spell attacks all of those who are not considered allied. I would assume that someone that is in a party would be considered as allied, and yet the spell will affect those in party. Not only that it will affect even the caster if he fails the roll, which is to my sense should not happen.
Reproducable: yes see Sil'via pics.

What pics?
-
The description on the spell and on lore says that creatures in the area, not allies, will run away from any non-allies. Its working as intended. Thus also the caster needs to save.
-
Think you should reread it then
Affected creatures are consumed with mind-numbing fear that overrides all other actions. The affected creatures run away from all those they do not consider allies (like, in-party).
-
Hmm seems i didn't upload it, there was i pic I took a two weeks ago where she got her self scared with her own spell Will try to find it in my hundreds of pics.
-
What Blackguy said was correct, Hellblazer - doesn't matter if Sil got herself scared - that's the intended way for the spell to work.
The Fear spell causes those affected (all within AoE who fail their throw) to run away from those they do not consider allies. So while you might not run away from your own party members, you will run away from enemies.
-
This is why Remove Fear is such a handy spell - especially considering the fact that IT is an AoE that only works on allies. Smack someone with that while you're next to them, or smack yourself, or the ground near you... Then wail away with Fear.
-
good for wiz to know, not so good to sorc or bard who have only a limited amount of spell, but certainly to be taken on consideration soon by me.
-
Don't forget, though, that Fear only works on things with under 5 HD. Period. Doesn't matter what your DC is... It'll only work on things with 5 HD or lower. (Or is it under, but not including 5 HD, i.e. 4 HD, 3, 2, and 1? Bah.)
Edit: Looks like I got that one wrong.

No, that's Scare (http://lore.layonara.com/Scare)
Fear (http://lore.layonara.com/Fear) should affect anyone who fails the save.
-
Ah, that's right. I was mistaken. *Tips his hat.* Thank you for correcting me.
-
I still find it more than odd, that the one who is casting the spell would not be safe from his own spell. Knowing that he is casting it should prevent him from being affected, imho.
-
There is alot of self affliction spells that also target the caster. Confusion is a good example aswell.
To avoid that always make sure your protected from mindspells when using ally affecting spells.
-
Fireball is another good example of AoE spells that can and do affect the caster.
-
Likewise Cloud of Bewilderment, Stinking Cloud, Scintillating Sphere, Ice Storm, Acid Fog, and a host of others.
-
Moral of the story: Do not shoot self in foot. :)

Of course bear in mind that enemy casters can cast AOEs on themselves and their own troops with impunity. Nothing like a giant that hellballs itself across the whole screen and stands unscathed to make one extra wary. ;)
In the next incarnation, please script enemy shamans to stop using AOEs on themselves when their allies are near, or at least if the spell is in range to hit himself. Especially hp-per-round things like black tentacles and incendiary clouds.... those are cheaper than a mithral golem w/ original acid-sheath to the 4th power.
