Title: Essrantor's Veil Quest Announced
Post by: Chongo on May 03, 2008, 01:44:15 AM
WELCOME TO THE QUEST SERIES: ESSRANTOR'S VEIL

For the past several weeks, a group of several GM's have been working with the writing team and lore experts to develop a quest series that would impact the lands you travel on Layonara. This series contains 11 individual quests, which are tied intricately to each other, hinging on each other's success.

The quest will begin with the High Boyer designating his esteemed counciler for war, Raker Estoum, to put forth the call of aid in a time of impending threat. The quest begins with that alone, an audience with one of the most highly respected individuals in the Boyer Kingdom at Boyer's Fort.

This quest will impact the world around you. It will play upon developing plotlines, and at it's conclusion - the lands of the Boyer Kingdom will face the changes that have sprung from your own efforts. It will require wit, perseverance, teamwork, and sacrifice from all the players involved.

So how does this work?

There are 11 quests in this series. They will occur next week at varying times that allow for attendance in all timezones. The introductory quest will cause several groups with different tasks to split up. This feeds into the other quests.

The separate quests will involve the groups designated to the task, and that group will be time bubbled in that lone plotline.

You can not attend quests that are outside your designated group.

There are three major branches to the quest, and in each below, you will see that the quests are each designated to a specific branch. This is the progression of each branch in all of it's quest segments.

There are three Finale's to this series, all feeding time bubbled repercussions of each success or failure from the other branches. While some are oriented towards higher levels, and other lower levels... the nature of the series is that every quest branch is critical towards the success of the series. They are all tied together, and if one branch fails, dire consequence faces the others.

So all participants be aware - your actions count.

Each GM will be posting their quests on the Calender shortly. There may be some minor changes to times or days, so be flexible with your GMs. Sign up accordingly, and find a series or branch that seems right for you, or strikes the right chord for you. They have some vague details attached, and we'll be working with all of you to assure that everyone finds a home.

The introductory quest will create many of the groups, so prepare for flexibility in this as well. And yes, if you can't attend the introduction, there is opportunity to still join in.

The GM's that can help answer questions are those running or helping run each segment of this series:

- Chongo

- Miltonyorkcastle

- Osxmallard

From afar, the High Boyer looks from his window to think upon the view his eyes behold. An anvil of cloud forms over the Thunder Peaks as the winds grow colder and pour forth in all directions. The wind pours through and onto his face, colder then ever before, colder then it should rightfully be. Such risk the heights above, but such risk to avoid them any longer. The time for a battle of ages has come.

Just some clarification here on the bubble...

The "You can not attend quests that are outside your designated group." part is refering to more like "you cannot attend any other session on this quest series designated for others groups than your own", right? And not the classical grand bubble saying "you cannot be in game during the duration of this bubble"? :)

Correct.  That statement is particular to this series.  So if you're in group branch A, you can only go to the quests: thundering horizons, the deafening silence, a mist of tears, and clash of the storms.

It's particular to Essrantor's Veil though.  You can be in game, doing your thing, attending other quests - but you can't RP like you've been up into the high peaks and came down for a break before heading back up on the time sensitive quest.  It's bubbled.  Likewise, you can't be in two places at once.  You can't be fighting in Finale 1 and Finale 3 at the same time.

Are the parties closed?  Like... if somebody can't make the first group B quest, but could make the rest are they allowed to RP in?  Or once you miss one you miss them all due to closed party-ness?

Edit: Also! Might I suggest you include the "group" on the calender as well as the level limit so people don't have to come back to this post each time when they are planning. Like... according to this post this entry: http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=6952&day=2008-5-5&c=3 is 26+ group A, but it doesn't say that.

I'm sure you were getting to that though!  ;)

Well I can say that both of my C1 events will be open to all C bracket people (unless time bubbled by another GM) and will also be open to folks not in any bracket. I will not close the parties but I plan for both events to last only one session each.

Alright, more on the groups and individual segments:

 - The introduction is the plotline introduced.  I also hope to see key PCs present for this as certain individuals such as Tobias, Hardragh, Kobal, Bumblebee... the list goes on - have a lot of information as to the dozens of lead-in events that have taken place.  Everything will spring forth from this quest as far as information goes.  But... it's not mandatory to attend in order to find a place on the other quests.

 Group A:
 - This is a pretty mandatory high epic group
 - Once you commit to Group A, you're confined to the Group A segment
 - If you can RP a way in between Deafening Silence and The Finale, then you are welcome to join late.  This will require you finding a good reason to trapse up into the high peaks to link up with a group that's facing some sincere hardship.  So you'll need to come in understanding why they are where they are.

 Group B:
 - This group will be closed to newcomers following the Wisdom of Willows startup.
 - Anyone wishing to join the second part of this will need to get confirmation with mixafix.

 Group C:

 - Group C is broken up into to parts.  C1 and C2.
 - Once you pick a quest in C1 or C2, you can attend other quests within the C1 or C2 brackets.  These are generally stand-alone quests, so attendance is fairly open.
 - Both C1 and C2 flow into the Titan's Strike Finale.  All groups will feed into this - which is the 'hefty' part of the war.

Beware that forum time is contradicting post time for at least GMT.

19:00 GMT is now 21:00 CEST, while the forum says 22:00.

Please confirm what time is actually the correct one? As always, it is definitely much more recommended to use this page: The Fixed Time World Clock – setup (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedform.html?year=2008&month=5&day=3&hour=18&min=30&sec=0&p1=239)

Just to further confuse things, the above link gives this result (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?day=4&month=5&year=2008&hour=13&min=0&sec=0&p1=197), which says that 13:00MST is 20:00GMT, not 19:00GMT as listed above.

Can Chongo please confirm MST (Mountain Standard Time) is the correct time zone to use, and not MDT (Mountain Daylight Time, aka "summer time").

Regards,

Script Wrecked.

Hey folks, all the quests save for the one undetermined finale are up on the Calender.

I'm actually going to lift the restriction on the C group and say that anyone in the C group can attend all C quests.  It actually makes more sense this way.

Group A and group B are restricted to their own fairly linear series however.

I'll be posting up developments on the Layonara server forum, the first of which should be up once I get the logs to post.

The series has ended, with some open ends. Tales are forthcoming, and I'll ask the many confused players involved to begin speaking with the other groups to peice things together. There are some small conclusions to be described, but in the meantime roleplay away. The time bubble is officially popped.

Some key points that are known at this time by all who were involved:

 - That a single pillar of Essrantor Aldtorskel has been destroyed.
 - That the region is in flux with a disruption of the power in Essrantor's curse on the lands.
 - That three wars waged at once as some marched on Storm Tower, while some held a pass from Essrantor's forces, and while the last sought out a means to suppress an ancient curse.
 - That some failed, and some succeeded.
 - That ancient allies were sought and found, that spectral dragons flew through the skies, that undead elves and dwarves marched across battlefields, that giants turned stone and buried in the ice were restored, and that a whole lotta folks died bringing the pillar down.

The rest is likely utter confusion! Fit the peices together.

Finally, I'd like to thank all the GM's involved who ran quests and stuck with the series from brainstorming to conclusion:

 osx
 jrizz
 miltonyorkcastle
 mixafix

This series took a lot of communication, and was extremely hectic towards the end. From Mix taking two finale's under his wing while bouncing between servers at the end to communicate last minute results to me for my final group in motion, to people logging in hours beforehand to set stages for Fort Boyer or Storm tower, to multiple GMs firing vfx at a rate only multiples can achieve, to just plain coming through on helping see this through - it's been a big production to wrap up in one week, and thanks.

All told, it was 43.5 hours of quest for the week, with so much player attendance on the quests that it was almost too much to handle despite being spread between several segments. So well done.

Enjoyed Mix's finale last night a lot - and from the soudns of it everyone enjoyed the other parts just as much.

Thanks :)

Ahhhh-Lin'da humble as usual. Wonderful job guys putting this together! A story that made sense and one where the pieces actually fit together. The visuals were great. Was nice not to have to use imagination for everything. I usually dont get a big enough block of time to go on quests. Really lucky to be on vacation that week, and the time zone was perfect. Goldy will remember this one for a long time.

I have to say the coordination between GM's was amazing.  You guys did a great job not only putting things together for the big picture, but in the details of the individual quests as well.  With a thousand possible outcomes given the complexity, you moved quickly and adjusted on the fly which amazes me on something of this magnatude.  I haven't seen anything similar since the fall of Blood.  It was great to be a part of it and have a new series of stories to tell the newbies.  5 stars and 2 thumbs up!
