So, this is from the time when my grandma was young, and there were no radios or TV's or even parlour dances around, and their family sat together in the kitchen telling riddles to each other.
The riddle goes as such "What is long and hard and good for the bumm?", now for this to make sense to the english folk, a little dictionary thing: "Pylly = bumm" "Hylly = shelf" in finnish, and my grandma's sister Vieno heard the riddle wrong of course, and looked around the room for an answer in confusion and looked to he bookshelf, and then yelled: "Candle!"
The correct answer of course would have been "Penkki = Bench"
:D

I don't get it... Whats Pylly Hylly have to do with a Candle, a Bookshelf, or a Bench?

when translated, the similar finnish words caused a switch-up, and she mistook the riddle for, "what's long hard and good for the shelf?" so she said candle. (she saw it on the shelf.)
