Dear Layonarans,

Consider this a formal invitation to my first quest as a gamemaster, Red Red Wine (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=9172&day=2008-10-21&c=3). I hope to see many of you there!

Please remember that this will be the first quest I'll be running as a gamemaster, and as such I ask that you bring some patience with you and forgive me any novice mistakes I might make! I've limited the party size to ten for this quest so I'm not overwhelmed with a large and active party while I'm still getting used to the GM client.

For any of you that can't make this quest or might not get a spot if we have a lot of people sign up, don't fear! More quests will be scheduled soon, and I'll always try to post in this thread as well as on the calendar. Please also use this thread if you have any questions for me about my quests or other GMly things. (Or, alternatively, if you want to tell me what a fantastic GM I am! *grins* Flattery will get you everywhere!)

Well, that's about all for now. See you soon!

Okay questers, two important announcements!

One, Red Red Wine (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=9172&day=2008-10-21) has moved forward one hour from 8:00 PDT to 7:00 PDT. (This decision was made when I realized that I'm getting too old to stay up late on school nights!) Apologies for any inconveniences to those who had planned to attend already. Inconveniences include but are not limited to: signing up for the quest again! When an event is moved on the calendar, all the names get wiped. Please sign up again so I can estimate who is coming. That said, I did write all your names down before I moved the event, foreseeing this consequence.

Secondly, after a lot of questions and requests and an unexpectedly high level of interest in the Red Red Wine quest, I've come to the conclusion that I have to be more specific about level requirements and priorities for this quest. Here is what I've decided, after some thought. I've tried to be as inclusive and fair as possible, and I hope you will agree.

1. First priority for this quest will be given to questers bringing a character within the level requirements I set out, which are 7-16, AND signing up on the calendar.

2. Second priority for this quest will be given to questers who want to bring a character lower than level 7 and who sign up. Characters lower than level 7 come strictly at their own risk, knowing that encounters were potentially balanced for higher levels and the quest might be dangerous. Also, I ask that you let me know in advance that you will be bringing a lower level character in some way. PMs, IRC or however else you want to arrange this is fine.

3. Questers wanting to bring characters higher than level 16 MUST talk to me in advance, and will only be included in the first RP portion of the quest. I will let you know when we're moving into the quest proper, and at that point will give any XP owing and send you on your merry way. It is strictly BYOE--Bring Your Own Excuse. (Note: I don't do this to be unfair or because I don't love the higher levels, but merely because of combat balance issues for this quest. Please rest assured you higher levels will have lots of opportunities on future quests.)

4. Questers who forget to sign up will be included based on availability and luck of the dice. The party limit for this quest is 10 players, so I'm not overwhelmed. There will be some flexibility in party size for the RP portion at the beginning of the quest, though.

Hopefully that clears things up a bit, and again, sorry for any inconvenience! See you Tuesday.

Hi questers,

A quick thanks to everyone who came out to the quest tonight. I appreciated your patience as you worked with me, and hope you had fun. If you have questions, comments, or IC follow-up, my PM box is always open.

The conclusion of the quest will be running next week, during roughly the same timeslot. Please see the calendar entry: Red Red Wine: The Dregs (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=9222&day=2008-10-28&c=3). Priority for this event will be to attendees of the previous session first, and other sign ups meeting the level requirements second.

Hope to see many of you there!

Hi there!

Wanted to come to the 'Red Red Wine' quest, but I got really confused about the time. Looked up the time on the world time clock, and waited for awhile at the time it told me, but I didn't see that it was actually on a whole different day for me! :o

Hoping maybe I can still come to the next one...

Thanks. :)

Hi Kenderfriend,

I'm sorry you missed the quest. Yes, timezones are very confusing, especially when they cross date lines or go between days! I like the world time clock in part because it tells you both the day and the time.

You are welcome to sign up to the next one and come and meet up with us, but please be aware that the players who attended the first session will have priority to attend the quest, as they're already involved in the series. (Makes sense, right?)

Anyway, hope to see you there!

I say this is one of my favorite quests so far, it didn't feel too rush and the pace was nice. I enjoyed the fact that the quest didn't rest so heavily on only one or two people but everyone in the group helped on adding drama. ;) I'm looking forward to the continual and other quests later on! Thanks alot Phoenix!

Hi again questers,

It seems we are not quite done with our wine-related shenanigans, so the (hopefully) very final chapter of this little series will be running next week on November 4th. Please see the calendar entry (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=9262&day=2008-11-4) for details. This quest is not closed, but newcomers must PM me in advance so we can discuss why your character would be stumbling across the group at this point.

Also, as promised, a discussion thread (http://forums.layonara.com/general-discussion/205702-quest-discussion-thread-red-red-wine.html#post1127902) has been created for your convenience. I highly recommend that both groups A and B (but especially the second group!) use this thread to post what their characters learned during this session so you can all plan your approach for the conclusion.

As always, my PM box is open if you have questions, concerns, feedback, or you want to fill me in on your super secret plans for next week so I have a heads-up on them.

Have a great week!

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that unfortunately I've had to move the Red Red Wine quest that was originally scheduled for Tuesday. An unexpected commitment reared its ugly head, and I can't weasel my way out of it!

I've moved the quest forward one week, which means it now falls on November 11th, which is a holiday for most people. I've kept the timeslot the same, but if it turns out everyone can't make it, we'll find another time.

Again, so sorry for the late notice and inconvenience!

Hello everyone,

Red Red Wine is just about wrapped up, so last chance to get any follow-up PMs in to me! Two players have already approached me about their characters' actions, and I will be touching base with both of you through PMs within the next couple of days.

To others involved in this quest -- I am giving you until Sunday evening to PM me if you have anything pressing! Unless you give me a good reason, the follow-up will be through PMs or IRC rather than IG. After everything is settled, I'll post the results to Rumors or our quest thread.

To everyone else -- I will probably take a week off, but look for another scheduled quest the week after that! I will post on the calendar and here as soon as I can nail down my schedule for that week.

Cheers!

Eh I had a great time, thank you for the time and effort put into a supposedly one night event that took 3 weeks to conclude! Keep your quests at the same time slot then I can enjoy more of them as it's a perfect time for me! Also thanks Oriborous for ataching me to Tim so I could watch the end even though Chaynce was plant food, dang mean druid. Well done all the way around, the Xeenies were great as well as everyone else.

Hi questers,

After a hiatus for end of November/December-related busyness and a few weeks off with CDQs, we are back on for December 18 (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=9852&day=2008-12-18).

This quest will be mostly RP, quite short, and is open to anyone. Characters not meeting the level requirement for Dregar but who wish to attend can PM me and we will set up a port for you on the day of the quest.

This will be an introduction to an upcoming quest series involving a brave, gallant and perhaps dangerous expedition to the far north.

Hope to see you there!

An unexpected opportunity on a large shipment of goods brings The Mermaid from Lor to Hurm ...

Several ship captains from Leringard bring curious adventurers to the northern Dregar port to hear Captain Carden Grant propose his next great voyage.

//Or in other words, we are changing venues for tonight as there have been more signups than I anticipated. Trust me, you'll thank me when you don't all have to cram into the tiny Traveler's Choice Tavern!

Please meet in Hurm, but I will be giving ports to those who don't get the message.

Reminder: Dark Waters starts two hours from the time of this post! Meet in Hlint.

Level requirement is 1-14, and will be quite firm. If your only character is level fifteen ... well, we can talk! But otherwise, dust off that low level alt that's been languishing in the Vault, because this one is under fifteen only!

Hi Questers,

The best laid plans of mice and men! I just got a call informing me of a meeting scheduled later today that I have to attend, which unfortunately falls right into my setup, prep and start time for tonight's quest, "The Spirit Of The North: Departure". With great reluctance, I have to bump tonight's session back one week.

I know people work hard to schedule these quests into their busy lives so I'll try not to leave you all hanging. As soon as I find out how long my meeting should run I will post a new start time for a much smaller mini-quest. Keep an eye on the calendar!

Again, apologies about the late notice. You are finding out about it at the same time I am.

Okay folks,

I'm going to try for a short mini-quest for all those who made some time tonight. Think of it more as a semi-scheduled impromptu! Let's aim to start in Hlint at 6:45 PM PST. (25ish minutes from the time of this post)

Title: Re: Phoenix Quests
Post by: Carillon on January 26, 2009, 10:36:20 AM
Hi everyone,

After last week's delay, The Spirit of the North is back on again for Tuesday. Check The Calendar (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=10332&day=2009-1-27&c=3)

As a reminder, this will be the first installment of a longer quest series that will run for several weeks at minimum. Participants are strongly encouraged to make an effort to commit to the entire series, and prior participants will always have priority for sessions. Some sessions will be open to new participants, but later on in the quest the party will probably get locked, so join early!

Overview of the Series: Captain Carden Grant intends to take his ship, The Mermaid, and sail north from Leringard to Krashin, through The Bear's Teeth and finally reach the northernmost continent and delve into its mysteries.

Series Will Run: Tuesday nights, at around 6:00 pm PST until maybe 9 or 10 pm PST depending on the session. Side quests may occasionally be run on weekends as necessary.

Who Can Join?: This series is open to all players, regardless of level, race, class, etc. It is desirable to attend all sessions, but I will invent ways to sneak new party members into the first few sessions as necessary. There will come a time in the series where the party will lock, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

What's The Adventure Guide?: My intention for the series is for this to be a high RP series with a healthy dose of adventure and combat. However, the forecast for any given session will vary. Some sessions will have lots of combat and some very little. Some sessions will require more problem solving skills than others! Hopefully most sessions will achieve a balance of these.

Post any questions about the series here or PM me ...

Hope to see you there!

Hey guys,

Just a quick reminder that The Spirit of the North starts tonight and will probably run for at least a month. If you're planning on being a part of it, please consider signing up (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=10332&day=2009-1-27&c=3), as this really helps me plan for numbers.

For anyone who is going to join us, I've also set up a quest forum as promised. To join the forum, go to My Account --> Edit Profile --> Miscellaneous --> Group Memberships and select "Spirit of the North" from the options.

Hope to see you tonight!

Hi Everyone,

The link for the next session of Spirit of the North is up on the calendar (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=10432&day=2009-2-3). I have bumped this session's time back slightly so it will give Ouroboros time to join us, so we will be starting a half an hour later than last week. If you know in advance you will have to leave early or come late, please let me know as it helps me plan. A PM would be fine.

As a reminder, please sign up for the quest forum! We will be using this, and only a little over half of you have signed up so far. I'm giving people another day or so to request membership before I start posting things so ... yeah. Sign up!!

I think that's it for now ...

Hi Questers,

Due to an unprecedented number of absences and requests for postponement this week, Spirit of the North will be moving ahead by one week again.

My sincere apologies for the late notice, but it's no fun to run a quest when so many people who have committed to the series can't be there. I considered moving the quest to another day, but I don't think there's another day you can all make it. I will be lurking tonight instead ... so don't be surprised if an impromptu or two comes your way!

Hi Questers,

Thanks to everyone who participated in Castles Made Of Sand--it was great fun to DM for you, and I heard Pankoki saying he enjoyed himself too!

Next quest on the calendar is here. (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=12222&day=2009-6-8) Ever been to a carnival? Ever been curious? Ever longed to see the strange, the unexplained, the fantastic? Well now is your chance.

No level requirements for this one, but there is a firm party cap of eight players. Dice will be used to determine slots if more than eight players show up.

Cheers,

See you there,

Title: Re: Phoenix Quests

Hi questers,

I hope you have been enjoying the last couple of weeks. Unexpectedly, we've had to schedule one extra session of "The Island (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=12532&day=2009-6-29&c=3)". Turns out I wrote a three act play rather than a two act play!

Following "The Island", the next quest will be "Goblin Market (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=12552&day=2009-7-7)". As discussed when rolling for spots for "The Island", for this quest only those not making the cut on the last one will be given preference for this quest. I'm not going to be doing this regularly, but it was worth a little experiment.

Those people are (in case you've forgotten):

Amireanna, Vareck, Ellis, Aylana, Endrahila and Alzarin

Please do not feel any obligation to attend just because your name is on the list! I'd rather people come because they have a genuine interest in the quest.

As a sneak peek for the future, there is also a more epic-focused mini-series in the works. Hope that sparks your curiosity and sharpens your appetite!

Cheers,
~Carillon

Two small and RP heavy events scheduled:

1) Stories at the Crossroads: Bring your best tales to the Stormcrest Crossroads tonight, around 5:00 PST. More GM-moderated RP than an actual quest--though there are always chances of impromptus!

2) Cherry Blossom Snow: Tomorrow (Wednesday July 29 @ 6:00 PST), come to Creedo, Tilmar to enjoy the magnificent beauty of the cherry blossoms.

See some of you there,

Well, after a long and busy summer, I'm mostly back to regular GM duties. Some of you might have felt the gentle tap (or not-so-subtle bash!) of the XP wand in recent days as I played "Roleplay Fairy", and I'm hoping to get a few new quests on the calendar soon.

I do have a few other projects, both Layonara related and otherwise, that are taking up my time, and a bit of a CDQ waitlist that I've been trying to get a handle on. Still, you should see more of Phoenix now that summer vacations are over, and I'll post here when I have time to toss a few quests up on the calendar soon!

~Phoenix

p.s. I took a few minutes to update my GM and CDQ threads this morning. If you've never taken a look and you're curious about my style, what to expect, or you've never been on a quest with me, feel free to take a peek! CDQ threads are all under "Character Development" and GM intro threads are under "Ask A Gamemaster".

and

What Dreams May Come questers:

Sorry for the slower than normal responses tonight. I'm going to go curl up with a nice cup of tea now and see if I can kick this cold.

Remember, failing quests isn't the end of the world. Not all quests succeed. Sometimes it can simply be a couple of bad decisions. Sometimes your GM has the cold from hell and might not be giving you enough clues. ;) Let's chalk this one up to a combination of me being sick and you being ... "determined" about certain courses of action.

Coming Up: Get ready to meet a few familiar faces in questy situations. At least two World Leaders will be making cameos sometime before the end of the month. (World Leaders, if you too would like to be a Phoenix Plot Hook, PM me with an idea and we'll talk!)

That's all for tonight, folks. *goes to get some rest*

Once more I leave you to click the calendar entry, RSVP, read my insightful choice of poem or quote for the week, and wonder whether Phoenix hides clues in these little chosen poems and lines ... or is merely trying to make her minor in lit count for something. ;)

Events are also up on the calendar for October, but bear in mind these may change with my schedule. RSVPs will open up closer to the dates.

Nesting Urges (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=13972&day=2009-10-22&c=3) will run tonight at the scheduled time. Sorry for the delay in opening up the RSVPs--it's been a crazy, crazy busy sort of week or two.

Be advised, though this quest is for levels 1-16, it will involve combat, potentially some dangerous combat, and lower levels may find the combat quite challenging, especially depending on who ends up coming. Okay! You've been warned!

Just one event from me this week: a little Hallowe'en special (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=13982&day=2009-10-29&c=3) at the Crossroads. Be sure to bring your spookiest story!

Tonight's offering: An RP event. Probably no combat--we hope! Steel is summoned to Blackford to answer to the queen of Trelania, Queen Mouring. It is an open audience, which means others can attend and listen to the proceedings, if they are curious enough to come.

Calendar Link (http://forums.layonara.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=14702&day=2009-11-15&c=3) for any who have not seen it.

Important Note: IG time passes way too quickly, and we couldn't find time to schedule this before today. However, this event should be RPed as happening before the tsunami strike. (So no, don't worry, we won't make you think of a reason your character is leaving their city of choice where they are providing aid!)
