A certain commercial reminded me about Layonara today, so I decided to check out the place that took so much of my free time back in the day. :D Find out if it's still active and whether some of those I knew are still around.
I must say that it is rather scary. I began playing somewhere in the end of 2003, back then I was still in the 10th grade. It is now 2008, school has ended, even the university has ended, and I now have something that looks like the beginning of a career. If back then I used to play for, sometimes, over 8 hours a day, then now I often work for over 10 hours a day. (not the best switch if you ask me!)
It has been five years only, but these two times seem like decades apart. What I am now trying to blabber here, is that this website is like an old picture album, I look at it and memories come back. Playing Rufus, crafting, going on 5+ hour quests, doing the ECDQ (thanks Ed!), being awake the entire night simply because the party to raid east only played in PST. It was a happy time with no responsibilities whatsoever.
Did I just sound old? Because I felt old! And I am 22, sheeesh. Alright, not old, sentimental is a better word.
Sooooooo, anybody in this large online still remembers me? What has changed, what has happened? And why the hell do I have an inbox full of PMs with people looking for Rufus! *squints his eyes*
Does my mansion on the Barbarians islands still stand? It had a lot of stuff hidden in those chests *grins*

PS: That's a lot of level 40ties, who was first?

*waves* hey, still remember Rufus, just seing his name reminds me of his pants comment to Varka doing the hunt :D, to bad the evil mage had to leave (with the price he took for setting my emerald rings he had to be evil) anyhow nice hearing from you and best of luck with the career.

Yeah, the mansion is still there, and as for the first to 40th, it was Angela, followed by Alantha. I believe those are the only two.

Varka is now a statue in Bloody Gate. Ozy and Rev have left, IDii hasn't been around for even longer.

nah 75k per ring, then Rufus took petty on the poor girl and made 2 for 125k, he even had the nerve to call it discount ;)

Farros Galdor still misses Aliester's old trading buddy. From time to time he reads the nameplates on the homes and rattles his cursed monkey skull on a stick in his honor. Should drop by! Get back into the swing of playing again. Only met Rufus a couple of times, but he was most memorable. ;)

The Hunt and Lia's wlqd, that was where Storold met Rufus... I am sad that he didn't got to know him better than that since he held great respect for the powerful mage.
I am glad to see that life is fine for the person behind the character. And hey who knows we might see more of Rufus in the future :)

Always nice to see old faces pop by, I remember seeing Rufus online when I was still playing Godim the ol' mage (then mageling compared to one Rufus Coldfinger) :)

Took me a while to conjure up a reply, work got in the way again. But I am really happy to see that things are lively here. As for Rufus coming back, I think that some things are better left as memories, though I have to admit that reading the development blog that Ed posted is pretty intriguing. Is it going to be like a totally freestanding MMORPG not based on any other single player game?
Akata, I now remember why I charged you 75k per ring. At the very end of my playing I read a topic about inflation and that people had a lot of coin on their hands, so I thought that my prices were unchanged for too long and decided on an increase. I think it is very likely that you were the only person to pay the new price, sorry ;P

But, two things interest me:
a) Any interesting plot developments (nothing secret though), last time I was here the Dark ages began, with all the main bad guys dead and the last "relative" of Blood in Pranzis.
b) Any bad PCs around these days, Corathies active?

You bet. Though Aragon has been away a while with RL obligations (and Chanda has her own too now I think about it!), he pops his head in every so often. Polak76 (player of Ramanon) is still around, though sporadic as ever. Then there are those who don't wear black robes .... and their smiles mask thoughts of evil intent. Quite a few of them. Worst of all, then there are the slew of strong yet manipulative women PCs that seem to be flourishing, furthering the cause of chaos with their multitude of puppets on strings!

hehe, I don't really play anymore either, I just have been lurking the forums. I haven't been able to get into any characters since Rhynn disappeared/died/planehoped/got eaten by Squishy/imploded. Its been almost exactly a year since I've RPed here..whoah

Bad PCs eh?
Grovel and Nonac are played by myself and my roommate Pooser. Evil, but cute enough to pretend to be heroes in their 6-strong gobbo tribe, and fighting for the side of nature. We slay zombies, breed wargs and torture necromancers, eat children. The gobbo tribe is doing well. :D
A few evil Rofies out there... an inquisition is brewing methinks...
I'm also playing a deranged deep-dwarf Prantz nationalist LE monk, Kahzrag Gloom.
Also a few other evil PCs since. Not many new ones in the service of Corath though.

They're few and far between. Though there are a lot of middle of the road types, and from where I'm sitting I think it'd just take a good leader to start guiding some of the epic LN and NE types in the right/wrong direction. It's hard for evils to get started as most play the bad-guy from the start and get beat down to the point that it's no fun. Whatever happened to charismatic evil leader who could feign the nobility and righteousness of a paladin.. just in another direction?
At any rate, sorry bud. I turned down the offer to come apprentice for you darker sorts. And to think, you could've had a little gnomish apprentice. Think of the outfits!
I mean it though. It just needs a little charismatic leadership. Come play!

So tempting, yet so impossible *sighs*
In the course of the next month I will be working in Russia for two weeks and in the remaining two weeks I will have another smaller trip within my country + in these 14 days I need to find a new place to live and hopefully write some of the final papers needed to finally get the Uni degree, not to mention that the usual work projects also continue. And then many more smaller things.
Thank you for the invitation though, judging by how you were able to write this tempting email you will be able to guide the evil folk of Layo and sway a few paladins from the right path along the way :)
Since it is a rainy day here in Estonia and I am feeling a bit tired from a fun night I will say goodbye by posting a music piece that I believe fits the mood of both the current day and Layonara.
