Title: Nwn Crashing up character selection page

I was wondering if any one could help me with this one. My NWN keeps crashing when I either switch char, or servers, always into the character selection page. Any ideas?

Have you any non layo specific character overrides? (i.e. skill, race or PrC overrides for the OC?). That could cause a problem..

Other then that I dont have a clue. It happened a lot to me in NWN2... I put it down to a buggy UI and engine on that though :S

It sometimes help to shut down NWN completely in between switching characters or servers, I do that else the character selection freezes up too.

If this is a problem of only a few months of now, then it could be linked to
NWN version 1.69 and it's release.
But shutting down NWN and restarting it can surely do the trick.

I myself use XNWNConnect to start the game and connect to the servers.
It's a nice little program by some french guy, that uses NWN's startup commandline to launch a connection to a server.

Meaning, you don't even have to start the game, it goes to the Connect To GameSpy screen at first, there you just enter your password (unless you have it saved on it), and then connect to Layo, voila.
Once exiting the game via any means, the game returns you to your desktop.

So if you have both West and Central saved onto it, and hop from server to the other, you end up on your desktop, click on the correct server's name and then click Connect, and then you're back on the horse. 8)

No it's been doing this for a while now.

Is it compatible with GLR?

I have successfully made the logs on GLR while using XNWNConnect, as GLR monitors nwmain.exe 's launching and exiting.
(At least the GLR 5000 does this)

Does it work with the glr 3.5 though? that is the one I am using since you can not rename the file upon exit with the 5000.

Can you describe the circumstances for the crash a little more carefully? Does it just crash when you reach the character selection page or?

yes most time i reach the character selection page, and my chars wont appear, it will just stop swirling, black selection screen with no pics, then a box with the usual optiosn for a crash.

Alright, I was just asking since I have experienced a few problems with the load hanging at that point. And clicking any tabs or anything while it was hanging resulted in an immediate crash. So I figure it might be a weakness in the game engine.

You wouldn't think there could be any room for mistakes 7 years after release would you?

As Chazzler said it might be resolved if you just exit every time you change characters; if your willing to give XNWNConnect a go its about the same time up and down as logging out/back in is cause it gives you the option to forgoe all the other menus! Two clicks and your ingame..
