Title: Silly questions
Post by: hyme on March 05, 2009, 05:47:56 PM
:\\

[Disclaimer]
I am enjoying and truly beginning to appreciate the depth to Layonara.

I have now played a fair number hours as Sekko Nevada (Rogue)
and come to feel and understand much more about this world and
more importantly, how I wish to role play and the sorts of activities
I think I would enjoy participating in.  I do not wish to put a lot more
time in with Sekko until I have had a chance to explore and understand
FAR more about this incredibly complex world ...

Lessons Learned::
I enjoy the role playing and the Quests and general combat
I have not enjoyed the looting and focus towards crafting, skinning, etc.

Silly Questions;
> May I play more then one character (obviously ONLY one at a time)
          I acknowledge the rules about abuse and muling, etc.
> I was thinking of playing a simple dwarven cleric or fighter
          Are there orders that frown on the collection of wealth?
          I would prefer to be focused on combat and aiding my comrades
          Is it possible to play a dwarf who has no interest in making things?
          Would another race be better?
          I noticed I get excited playing and make quite a few typos ...
          My feelings are that my typos could be role played as the "accent"
          of the dwarf and his general illiteracy.

Thank you all for your tireless efforts !!

The rule is 6 characters per account. If at some point you find yourself with 6 and would like to play another, you request to have one (or more) deleted and simply submit the new character(s) as normal.

I can't think of any at this time, though Ed may be the better person to answer this one.

A dwarf focused on combat and comrade sounds like your average Voraxian to me. *winks* No specific race has a focus on making things, per se. Dorandites (the religion) of course focus religiously on creation of all sorts of things. Illsarians tend towards creation of things also, though this is generally arts related (but not always). There are a good many that could care less (beyond having what's needed). There's no harm in being a consumer only.

This is a good excuse, and does fit in with what seems to be the usual 'accent' of dwarfs... Who sometimes require a translator despite speaking common. *smiles*

You could always apply for a dwarven (if you wish) cleric of Deliar! They collect wealth but are also charged with making sure trade is fair and people who are needy do not go without! Its probably done to death but I think its a loverly concept for a cleric in particular :)

Rowana hit the nail on the head though! *nods*
As for crafting it says here in LORE that it shouldn't have to be a focus;

I might enjoy playing a character who has a well trodden path in front of him !!
(Reference to the "done to death")

In terms of the "focus on crafting"
My experience (albeit small) has been everyone has been gathering, mining or otherwise engaged in some secondary or tertiary function.  I am sure this adds great realism and depth to the depth of this marvelous world, I am just
unable to devote any mind space for it currently ...

Maybe I will play a wizard one day and "get with it" !! LOL !!

Thank you for your help and comments, much appreciated.

If you are doing a proper dwarven accent, viz something akin to a Scottish brogue (of which several variations exist in-game), then it usually behests you to be even more vigilant with spelling, otherwise typographical errors in the phonetic spellings of unfamiliar pronunciations will make what you are trying to say unreadable to your fellow players. This is a bit of a slap for the poor player who is already making an extra effort to try and decipher the brogue.

Script Wrecked.

It's all good, folks here are pretty understanding if your typos are rather minimal.  Better accuracy typing will come with more time practicing.  In the mean time you can always use  // or ** before your correction if you make a real grievous mistake.  Thus you might have something like:

Nehetsrev:  I'm goin chopping at the trempel.
Nehetsrev:  //shopping, temple

Ya see?

Hope that helps.

I'll chime in on this and add that you don't need to be perfect when typing. For a lot of us English is not a primary language (not even secondary for some), so when simpler mistakes happen (like a single letter missing, but the word remains understandable), don't frantically try and correct it with the above methods. While it's highly subjective, if it's an obvious typo, leave it be and concentrate on RPing, not fixing the accidental typoes. It provides better flow of play than the constant ** or // after every other sentence, even if you make a lot of typoes.

Thank you Nehetsrev and s0ulz for the input.

I am beggining to have an idea of what I am going to do as part
of my role playing and what level of concern I will have over making
the required corrections.

Much appreciated !!

P.S.  I think the dwarf was a good idea, but I have an even better one !!
         Stay tuned to the new character submissions threads ...

If it can make you feel better... I am atrocious with my grammar and typing in general.. if I get a 30 minute playing time without making a typo or grammar blunder.. then I am having a really good day.  Just enjoy yourself this is all that we ask of anyone playing here. As Soulz said. For many of the people playing here, English is a second or third language.

No dwarven deities, no.
OF course there's deities that are all about helping others, and if you follow them and hoard wealth, you're not really living up to their expectations :)
