With the 3.2 update, many spells have changed. Is this a RetCon (i.e. the spells have always been that way, you remember that, right?) or has there been some recent change to the Al'Noth (or some other explanation for the change)?
-
If I had to explain it as a "change to the Al'noth" I'd say that the Al'Noth opened up more, and allows magic users to power their spells to new levels.
-
Yes indeed it has been growing gradually since an event took place. There was more then mechanical and balance reasons for it for sure. In fact the once "low magic" philosophy of Layonara has shifted. And with good reason! I'll let you speculate on why though ;)
Unfortunately we couldn't show a slow growth, or it would have taken many small updates. So you should RP it as something that has gradually improved.

I think the question is more in regards to things like greater magic weapon, which have changed in what they affect... it's more difficult to RP gradually affecting leather gloves when it couldn't do so at all before.
-
Well new discoveries of application are part of such improvements. We could go through and announce a ton of discoveries like I did with pipeweed. For example "While writing his thousandth scroll of Greater Magic Weapon, Moraken had a thought and decided to experiment with a different approach, and lo, he enchanted his gloves. He announced his discovery at the Arcane Council and news quickly spread..."

Sometimes things change, too, heh, especially with regards to magic...
-
And we would love it a bit if you did, Orth :-)
I don't think its necessary to do that, but as a character who will be asking mages to cast spells on her gloves there is a difference between "hey, there's this new technique some magickers are using, have you learned it" and "hey, cast that spell on my gloves... I know it's never worked in the past, but the al'noth has changed, and it will now, with no effort on your part"
the more information the richer RP, but I think whether its intrinsic to the spell now or something learned is the biggest thing...
