At the very least, it should be possible to fish with a Trident, as this is the Sea Elves' normal weapon use for that purpose.

If you have not used the fishing pole I would be happy to log in and rp that with you. It is always fun to be able to do that.

I know perfectly well how to fish. I'm just saying it's kind of strange that Sea Elves can't fish with Sea Elf equipment, which is designed specifically for fishing.
That's why I'm suggesting it as a CNR enhancement.

Well the actual reason is probably not a "good" reason, and that being that the Sea Elf and the Trident actually came well after the fishing system was implemented, so they weren't designed in. Why weren't they added? Oversight, perhaps. Wasn't my call at the time.
As to adding them...perhaps, but if you look at most fishing spots, the actual schools of fish are out of trident range from the shore, which is why a bow or a fishing pole are required, as they are "ranged" tools, whereas a trident is effectively melee. As was pointed out, there are places where one can actually wade into the water and directly damage those schools of fish and indeed use a trident to fish.
Anyway, if it seems there's a reasonable way to do it for places where it's not currently possible and have it make sense, then maybe.
