Title: Your Files Are (might be) Corrupt!
Post by: monjebleu on June 18, 2009, 02:45:44 PM
I am not sure if this is a problem with my computer or the download links, but whenever I try to download the all-in-one hakpak, it says the size is only 11 mb and then when I try to open with winrar, it gives me the message that the file is corrupt/broken/damaged. Thank you.

What most likely happened is the download terminated for one of a number of reasons, including a minor hiccup in the connection between your computer and the server or your internet provider.

 Try it again.

You may also want to try downloading the smaller haks individually, so that there's less chance of one of those hiccups happening, especially if your connection has issues.

A download-manager might help as well. Especially when one is short on time as you can resume a download at any time.

Hmm, well I am using a download manager, and I have tried it multiple times, so I will just have to download the smaller files. Thanks again.

Well right away if it tells you the all-in-one hack is 11 mb, then there is a problem there. Try downloading it without the manager as the all in one hack is 955 mb.

 from the download page.
Size of the file is: 1000458867 bytes or 955MB

Well if it serves for something after my recent need of reinstalation I had a problem as well with the All in one hak pak... and the problem was that it never got dowloaded.. the Download was interrupted a lot of times. and Well I had to download all the minihaks, thank goodness i had a CD with some of the old version archives,  That saved me a lot of time. But The all in one file i was unable to download.

This may not help as it's a little bit after the horse has bolted, but I use a spare USB hard drive to keep a complete backup of the entire NWN folder. This way I (hopefully) don't need to go through the download process for those huge files and only get the new ones instead.

I also have noticed that when/if you rebuild your Windows XP PC, simply copying the contents from the USB drive to the computer works perfectly and is faster than re-installing all those CDs again. It doesn't add in any registry hooks, but I haven't had any issues doing it this way.

by doing this though, you don't give the chance to your registery to be installed correctly so you do not see the programs that you just copied back in a whole, in the add remove programs.

True, but the real upside is that you just delete the entire NWN folder, without going through control panel, and it's gone - no reg hooks or orphan links to worry about. I have not come across any downsides, but I am sure the more knowledgeable out there may know of some.

Anyway, it was more of a solution to avoid having to download large files on a re-install.
