Several sightings and findings of unusual trails and markings have been spotted around the Sun Kingdom as of late, concentrated around Freis Lake and the town of Nel.
The markings vary from long lines of fire and ash, to large holes and craters of scorched and blackened earth.
Locals are puzzled by the bizzare tracks, and as of yet have been unable to find any cause.

"Hmm..." Argali ponders to herself. "Zpiderrs (http://forums.layonara.com/rumour-has/165442-spider-attacks-wolfswood.html)?"
She considers for a while.
"Perrhaps a zerrtain Captain of the Wolfswood Rangerrs will have the morre inforrmation," she says absently to herself.

*Phyress curses when she hears about the news around Nel*
"That ain't no good as all..."
-
Tyra stops upon seeing a trail of fire in the Crest Hills, and takes some time to see what might have caused the fires.
-
Mindful of the most recent news from Nel, as well as some previous occurrings there, Caerwyn stops on the way back from the Wolfswood to examine the tracks in the Crest Hills which he noticed on the way in. He takes the time to inspect the firey prints carefully, both for physical and arcane clues as to how they came to be there.
He mutters to himself as he studies the tracks: "Perhaps Phyress has the right of it, these might be from 'him'".

*After all patrols have reported in what they have witnessed and what they have found afterwards, Rodlin assigns a patrol of three elite rangers to tracking down what may have left the area. Addtiionally, he has sent word to all of the forwardly deployed patrols of what has happened, the details he has gathered and warned them to to remain vigilent.*
*He sends a reply to Argali Trueaxe.*
-
Argali spends some time in the vicinity of Nel and Lake Freis, though she finds picking up information to be very hard due to the intolerant attitude of most of the inhabitants of the Sun Kingdom.
Eventually, she turns south to the Wolfswood, and tries to make contact with the rangers to see if they have learnt anything.

Raz starts sharing the following with those that are interested.
"I think I found one of the trails as described. But it wasn't around where rumors say. It is in the Spider Cave East of Miritrix. Maybe someone should check it out."
-
*Vrebel is seen talking to the local authorities in North Hampton about a disturbing encounter that he and Tralek had while exploring in the Parched Hills*
I tell ya it was a demon or balor or somethin'. We were over by the parched hills and saw this ash and smoke comin' from the ground, then fire shot out of this hole in the sand and out pops this beast. We took off but stupidly came back fer a better look. Darn thing looked strait in me soul with those firey eyes. Terrifyin' it was. He said what land is this? I replied he was on the Isle of Vanavar. He roared and said he was too far and poof he was gone.
Darn thing left a big black scorch mark were it came out, it might still be there. Tralek said he sinced it was some kinda portal or somethin'. Anyways I'm gettin' back to Mistone...thought you folks should know.
*Vrebel sends word of Tralek and his encounter to the Wolfswood rangers, to authorites at Hilm castle, and to authorities at Miritrix as he's heard rumors of similar sitings from those areas.

**Rodlin assigns his best stealth rangers at the marks to gather intel*

*Tod pens a small note in response to Raz's*
A demon did pop up in the spider cave past Miritrix, it picked me up and burned the collar of my shirt! It asked where he was and I told him Belinara and what not... he growled really low and said "Too far..." Then he left, leaving those black marks.

*News spread that one Phyress Sylphide might know some more about this all and she is asking for a meeting for everyone to discuss what is going on and how to proceed from there. It is said more information regarding the meeting can be found in any tavern on Mistone, Alindor, Dregar and Belinara.*
-
*A knight clad in blue and gold armor is seen looking at the posts with a concerned look as he hears of this, some people swars that he frowned at the situation *
-This has to be stopped - he muttered not high enough,
*Storming off the path raiding his white stallion*

Rumors of a hooded man in a long, dark coat appearing at the sites of these craters and scorch marks begin to circulate. In each, he's rumored to have just shown up; no one saw him coming, but rather he was just there. The man would apparently move to the center of the burn, crouch down and touch the ground, which seemed to cause him some discomfort. And just as quickly as he appeared, the man vanishes again from sight. There are no tracks and no signs of passage. He is simply...gone.
-
Talk comes out of Orcs Watch of a group of adventurers finding a scorch mark in the very northern reaches of the Forest of Fog. Some more fanciful tales include mention of a winged woman. There is speculation as to whether the mark is connected to a recent rousing of the giants.

*Ami speaks somewhat excitedly about what she saw*
Hey, there was this big red firey thingy with glowy 'red' eyes, but it didn't speak elven, that appeared in the Great Forest! It just appeared outta no way!! **flings her arms up in the air* REALLY!!! *nodding convincingly with her eyes widened* So I hid behind a tree. The tree was rather large. I don't know what kind the tree it was other than a big one. Anyway, I hid. Peeked around it a couple of times to see this firey giant thingy with wings. It didn't say anything, nor see me, just turned and looked around. I think it was sniffing for me, but I was down wind. Then all of a sudden....it was gone. *holds her hands out to her sides indicating she doesn't know where it went* Once it was gone. I went to the burnt up ground and tried to tell what the heck was going on. I could tell there was conjuration in affect, maybe a sort of portal...I didn't see a portal, figured it was a portal. The firey giant thingy with wings just came and went...just like that *states matter of factly*. I lived through it. Pretty happy about that.

Word goes out that a mage whose name many have heard has a lead on the strange tracks and scorched earth found all over the world. Among posts and calls for help by others investigating these phenomena, a new notice appears.
It is brief, but it basically gives a date and a place: Bydell Castle, Alindor

// Sorry for the short notice. Hope some can make this.
// NOTE: This event is open to anyone interested, but it may well turn very dangerous, so anyone who comes takes that risk upon themselves and agrees to that risk.
// This is a player event but may see some GM interaction.
-
// Gah! I didn't realize this conflicted with a plot quest wrap-up session. I've pushed it back one hour to 12noon CDT/5pm GMT
// If you signed up already you will have to do so again. Sorry for the confusion.

*Tralek sends a messenger to find Connor Garvill and deliver the following note:*
Dear Mr. Garvill,
I have the most urgent news regarding the Demon and scortch mark sightings. As you may know, I was in the group that went with you to the cave near Bydell castle where we found and disposed of one of the demons. I tell you now that I have encountered another of these demons in a lair similar to the one near Bydell.
A group of us went down to the haunted canyons near the tent city in the Spirit Dunes. We were there to find an ingredient for an antidote to save a girl...no matter...that is not important here. What we did find was more scortch marks. Further in, we came upon and battled demon guardians; the same type that were guarding the demon cave near Bydell. The canyon was burning with fire and smoke...just like the cave near Bydell. We fought more of these demon guardians as we entered and explored the dwarven ruins. Then we met him, the demon himself. We were prepared to do battle, but he faded away; I'm not sure why, but he was gone. We defeated the demon guardians that remained.
I think it may be worth your while to investigate this place to see if the demon may still be there, or possibly to give you further clues to locate the remaining demons.
One other thing...some of us saw what appeared to be the ghost of a small female child. She appreared on at least two occasions. I'm not sure how she fits into this, but I think it important for you to know. At one point she seemed to try to communicate with us; maybe to warn us.
I hope this note finds you soon enough. I stand ready to help as you may see fit.
Regards,
Tralek

A few weeks pass without response until Tralek sees Connor in Spellgard. Connor explains he has not been home to receive the message due to recent events and recovering from them. Upon finally returning home, he reviews the letter and pens a short response to Tralek.
Tralek,
Thank you for advising me of this and for your efforts. I will have a closer look and report back my findings as soon as I am able.
Regards,
Connor

Another response comes shortly after, within only a few days at most.
Tralek,
Many of the marks led to random places. A cluster of marks seemed to lead to that same cavern I described before before my senses were diverted elsewhere. One mark, which seemed to be the most recent, ended in the Wandering Dunes. It was a familiar location, as it is at the edge of that great chasm that runs through it.
We did not see any sign of this girl you mentioned, or anything ghostly for that matter.
Regards,
Connor
