/// This is the thread for those involved in the little equine affair in Haven to chat up the halfling, run around in circles, or cast spells, or whatever. As long as it's IC and you were there. The rest of you reading this thread, chalk it up to rumors you heard sometime later when passing through Haven. Hence the thread's location.///

*Jennara speaks quietly with the halfling.*

*Mearden just brainstorms another way to unravel the spell while causing as much harm/pain as possible...
//discreetly, of course...
-
**The hafling fellow wipes the shock off his face and blinks a few times at Jennara**
"Well, what am I supposed to do?"
-
They will have questions, possibly irrelevant. That's the way of the decc. If there are any details you remember about the story you were told, that may help.
-
"Well now that its not just a smart animal but a person, we have to get them help. I have no love of them but Spellgard and the Lucies are just a ways down the road. If its money that worries anyone, I'll make the arrangments. Whatever it takes to help a person. Just hope she's cute."
*Raz makes eye contact with anyone broaching ideas and the halfling. He attempts to discern the halfling's stance on his possible loss/ chance to do a good deed.*
-
**The halfling appears befuddled. The horse, on the other hand, has struck up her previous nose-in-the-air pose and prances about in a circle around the halfling.**
-
*Vrebel walks up to the horse and gently brushes her side while whispering into her ear*
Do you think you can lead us to your previous owner, maybe the one who turned you into the beautiful specimen of a horse you are now? Stomp once if you can lead us to him/her and stomp twice if you can not.
-
**The horse, Sadie, looks at Vrebel, then steps onto the road and looks north. She trots, following the road north. At about a hundred paces she stops and looks back. The halfling takes a few steps toward the horse.**
-
*Seeing Sadie's interaction with Vrebel, Caerwyn follows her on the road north, carefully noting her tracks and their spacing. Stopping even with her, he makes an appraisal of her feet, comparing their size and condition to her tracks. Satisfied that he has a good image in mind, Caerwyn continues on the road north, looking for those same tracks heading south. *
-
"Heck I'm game." To noone in specific.
*Raz's mounts his horse and passes by the Halfling*
"Interested in following her?"
*Raz offers a hand down to the Halfling.*
-
*shocked that Sadie might be actually leading them somewhere he takes a quick glance back at the halfling before darting off toward Sadie's direction* Wait fer me Sadie!
*As he follows Sadie he turns back to the rest of the group that are still there* Hey folks looks like Sadie's gonna show us somethin'
*he then murmers something under his breath about whether Sadie made one stomp or two and independent women*
-
*half to herself, Mai speaks under her breath as she moves to follow* Oh, this should be entertaining.. I wonder if it's a jealous ex lover.. or a spurned admirer.. perhaps her ex lover's wife.. *she continues musing to herself along the road, an impish grin occasionally adorning her lips*
-
I assume the display of magic brings out the whole town to see, especially since the halfling had posted the public challenge, and this would be high entertainment to see a bunch of adventurers (and a paladin) bucked off a horse. Good fun all.
But just in case it somehow doesn't happen, Rottie just makes sure to point out the shape of the woman to Warrant Officer Kit. She is technically the law in this town. (And Rottie has a lot of innate understanding that being on the good side of the law is better than not being on it.)
And Rottie is cagier than he lets on. Keeping a horse is perfectly OK. Keeping a human shapechanged into a horse is slavery, and the Queen says slavery is illegal. So if the law knows the horse is a woman, the law won't object when the paladin and other take the horse from the halfling - to try to rescue her. (Which Rottie figures is likely to happen.)
-
After the horse appears to leave town, with no interference from the local constabulary, Rottie will follow at a distance. He knows perfectly well that he has little to add at this point.
-
/// Just a note, the horse has not yet left town. She has only trotted up the roadway, but yet to exit what constitutes the Haven City. I apologize if this was not clear from my previous posts. I'll give a little longer to see if anyone else has anything they wish to do or say, and then respond with a bit more action from the world/NPCs. ///
-
*Ell sends a note to Bydell Castle explaining the situation at Haven City, and of the woman/horse known as Sadie. Asking for them to send word on any information possible in helping this poor woman*
-
*Ty follows the group silently, closing in by the side of Mai, watching the horse, but when she hears Mai speaks she looks up at her, she whispering to her with a quizzical look.*
"Lover's.. w.. what d..does that mean?"
*She continues walking with them, looking down at the ground a bit ashamed.
-
Kit has certainly been observing the scenario even as she makes her rounds. A number of the Haven citizens have also been watching, though plenty also seem uninterested and go about their day. When confronted about the horse possibly being a woman, Kit frowns, and looks the well-spoken ogre up and down.
"Yeah, I seen your flashy magics. Maybe it's a woman, maybe it's not. Not my job to figure that out. My job is, however, to make sure you lot of so-called adventurers don't start drawing swords in the middle of the city for no good reason. I notice you're all getting a little ancy over there. You may wish to take your little show outside the city."
-
*Jennara glances at Vrebel briefly after Kit speaks. She stands with the halfling, waiting patiently for Sadie to take a walk, or for a magic show, or both, or neither.*
-
*Vrebel stops when Sadie stops and returns Jennara's glance with a slight smile and a twinkle in his eyes, then looks impatiently at the halfling and Kit and then finally back to Sadie* We goin' fer a walk er what Sadie?
-

"OK, ocifer," Rottie declares. "I sure hope I cen get 'em ta listen." He sighs. "Venturers. They don' listen ta me." He then sighs even more heavily. "They don' listen ta nobody."
Rottie pulls out his comically undersized (nonmagical) Az'atta cloak, and whispers a prayer over the holy symbol sewn into its back, begging for aid with impossible causes.
"Hey people!" He bellows. "Let's be nice ta da nice guard lady, an' go outside town, OK?"
"If 'ya need any help with anythin', I cen do it for ya," he says to the officer, before departing.
-
As though Rottie's yelling were the cue, Sadie answers Vrebel's question by beginning her trot anew, and leaves what is Haven City proper. The halfling follows along, Jennara close by, and he appears much more comfortable now that he's on the move.
-
Rottie quickly follows, but stays at a distance.
-
Tralek follows the horse out of the town proper. He seems to be playing something over and over again in his head...a chant perhaps.
As he's walking out of town he gets up along side Rottie and asks him "hey Rottie what do you think the chances are that the halfling has some kinda hold over the horsegirl, like blackmail or he'll hurt her family, or maybe he knows a secret way of harming her?
-
*Vrebel follows Sadie closely as she leaves Haven City* *he chuckles to himself upon seeing a mighty group of adventurers being led by a horse*

Rottie muses judgmentally... "I dunno, bu' there's gotta be somethn'. Any horse tough enough ta buck off a real paladin ain' gonna be scared a no haflin'. Least not usual."
He keeps walking. "Mebbe i's the curse. I figgure if ya gonna spell someone, ya'd figgure a way to keep 'em from jus' walkin ta the nearest Lucinda temple an' start countin with hooves, dancin', or doin' somethin' weird tha' horses don' do. You magic guys is pretty smart. Seein' a horse do that, you'd figgure that out quick. So mebbe she not only gotta look like a horse, she gotta act like one too."
"Mebbe you should keep up with that spell you was doin'. Even if it don' kill the curse, could be brusin' it a bit. Gettin' it all banged up, and no' feelin' well, like it got whomped by a giant. More ya do that, I'll bet, the less it got a hold on her."
"Mebbe," he concludes.

//// The quest is on the calender now; thanks to Steve for reminding me I forgot to put it up. We still start in Haven, basically at the point everyone decides to leave/follow Sadie. ////
